United Plugins Voxessor: enhance your voice-overs with a few simple controls
United Plugins has released Voxessor. Designed as an all-in-one processor for speech applications, Voxessor gets your voice-overs, podcasts and dialogue recordings in shape with tools like automatic gain compensation, compression, de-essing and more.

The booming fields of podcasting and content production for YouTube and social media have one thing in common: You need great-sounding speech recordings, and you need them quickly, ideally without the long and complex processing chains used in professional dialogue and voice-over production. This is where streamlined, all-in-one speech enhancement plug-ins like Voxessor come in.
The plug-in, which was developed by Soundevice Digital and is distributed by Plugin Alliance, contains various tools designed to help you achieve clear, well-balanced voice-overs with good intelligibility, without being overly complicated. Rather than confronting you with a panel full of confusing options for fine-tuning parameters, Voxessor offers a set of simple controls that let you achieve quick results.
First, there’s a one-knob EQ that lets you sweep through different settings for male and female voices. You can also adjust the intensity. Voxessor also features an ‘intelligent matching’ algorithm. It analyzes the source signal and EQs it to match the ‘ideal’ voice, whatever that may be.
The dynamics section offers a tunable de-esser, one-knob compressor and one-knob gate. Handling the dynamics of speech recordings can be tricky. If these simplified processors get it right, they could be a great time saver, especially for users without a background in audio engineering. Finally, there’s automatic gain compensation, which automatically rides the fader to even out level inconsistencies.
If you know your way around compressors, de-essers, and EQs, you may find yourself wanting a few more options. But if you’re looking for a quick way to enhance your speech recordings without having to worry about the details, Voxessor looks like it’ll do the trick nicely.
Price and compatibility
United Plugins Voxessor is now available from Plugin Boutique* for $35 / £25.83 / €28.50. This introductory offer ends on January 31st, 2021, after which the price will increase to $139.
The plug-in requires macOS 10.10 or higher (Big Sur not yet supported) or Windows 8 or higher. It comes in VST, VST3, AU and AAX formats.
