Hardware and software manufacturer Universal Audio released UAD Software v9.15. The update adds elaborate emulations of two renowned vintage units – the AMS DMX 15-80 S digital delay and Manley tube preamp. UAD v9.15 also comes with new Retina graphics for over 20 UAD plugins, as well as support for the latest Apple Silicon Macs and macOS 11 Big Sur.
UAD 9.15 – AMS DMX 15-80 S
Introduced in 1978, the AMS DMX 15-80 S was the world’s first digital delay and pitch shifter with CPU control and 15-bit operation. It can be heard in action on famous albums by the likes of Joy Division, Nirvana, Brian Eno, and Prince. It’s the sound of 80’s space and depth. Now, the sound of this vintage digital AMS studio rack unit joins the UAD library with several enhancements, such as Tempo Sync, Dual VCO mode, Dry/Wet Mix, and others. It’s a very elaborate delay for a vintage unit, but more importantly, it lays on the time bending stuff thick and vibe-y. Just as it should!
UAD 9.15 – Manley Tube Preamp
Manley tube mic preamps and gear are fabled classics, known for the richness and character they impart to any audio passing through. The Manley Tube Preamp plug-in aims to provide the same smooth clarity and tube musicality. With UAD’s Unison™ variable impedance technology, users get to experience the authentic characteristics and gain staging “sweet spots” of the original circuit. The added punch and tone is available both while tracking and across multiple channels through mixdown.
Price and availability
The AMS DMX Digital Delay & Pitch Shifter plug-in is available for USD 299. Also available is the Manley Tube Preamp plugin, priced USD 149. Both plug-ins work exclusively on Apollo and UAD hardware.
