Taylor 722ce Grand Concert & 724ce Grand Auditorium: Hawaiian Koa acoustics
Two new Hawaiian Koa electro-acoustics
These two Taylor 722ce Grand Concert and 724ce Grand Auditorium electro-acoustic models have just been announced. Both guitars come with an all-koa body construction. Using select Hawaiian Koa throughout and offering some new tweaks to the Taylor acoustic guitar formula.
Both the Taylor 722ce Grand Concert and 724ce Grand Auditorium use Hawaiian Koa with an ultra-thin matte finish along with a modified back bracing pattern. Taylor describes this V-Class Bracing combination as giving a “punchier, more vibrant and player-reflective koa guitar.” The company’s forest restoration efforts in Hawaii have helped them to secure, these new varieties of koa. Which, ultimately should be a much more sustainable way of working and gives us guitar players access to some high-quality timbre for our instruments. It looks like Taylor master builder Andy Powers has worked hard to bring this new tonewood to the range. And I can see it being popular with players, as it looks great and sounds just as good.
Expression System 2
Both models are electro acoustics and use Taylor’s Expression System 2 to achieve this. Apart from the Hawaiian Koa top, back, sides and neck, the guitars also have a paua shell/rosewood rosette, along with a maple/rosewood top edge trim and a dark-stained maple pickguard. The fretboards are made using West African Crelicam Ebony and come fitted with Tusq nut and they also use the same material for the bridge.
Both guitars ship with a Taylor Deluxe Hardshell Brown case and look like they will offer some great acoustic tones. The midrange sounds quite nicely focussed and you get crisp highs. You can hear a demo of these in the official demo video below. The MSRP on both models is USD $3499 and so you have a choice in body style for the same price. Both the 724ce * and 722ce * are available on Thomann already.
