We don’t usually include plugins that are only free for a limited time in our weekly freeware column, but TapeFi’s first release is so charming and unique that we had to make an exception. The aptly named TapeFi Fail brings the delicious sound of worn-out cassette tape to your DAW. Get it while it lasts!

Fail lets you choose from six distinct types of tape, inspired by brands such as BASF, TDK, Sony, AGFA, Pioneer, and Maxell. If you were alive during the cassette age, these names will be music to your ears! You can then adjust the Hiss, Heat (distortion), Drop (drop-out glitches), and Melt (tape wobble and pitch drift) to dial in the perfect sound for your track. A great way to add a unique lo-fi flavor to your production, or make your samples sound like they came straight from a worn-out mixtape in the ‘80s.

TapeFi Fail is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, and AU formats.

Analog Obsession is back with INDEQ, a free inductor-based EQ plugin with the unique filter shapes associated with this type of equalizer. INDEQ offers low, mid, and high bands with ±15 dB of boost or attenuation. Each band also has a choice of frequencies: the LF band lets you choose from 35, 60, 100, and 220 Hz, the MF band offers .2, .35, .7, 1.5, 3, and 6 kHz, and the HF band operates at 8 or 16 kHz.

The low and high bands offer shelf and peak modes, while the mid band is a peaking band with a switchable High-Q mode. In addition, INDEQ includes a switchable high-pass filter at 80 Hz – perfect for cleaning up the low end.

INDEQ is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX Native formats.

There’s also an L/R Offset control for stereo effects, as well as a Drive switch for some tasty tape saturation.

DelaySon is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
