Safari Pedals Noam’s Mastering Console: A Tube Mastering Desk in your DAW
An analogue tube mastering console, with a simple workflow.
The Safari Pedals Noam’s Mastering Console plugin is a faithful recreation of the custom-built tube mastering console at Safari Pedals HQ.
The mastering workflow of the plugin combines a range of features, including tube saturation, high and low cut filters with selectable slopes, Baxandall EQ, mid-side matrix, de-essing, and clipping. Let’s take a closer look at the various sections that make up Noam’s Mastering Console.

The filter section allows you to engage filters at 20 Hz and 20 kHz, respectively, with a choice of 12, 18, and 24 dB per octave slopes that determine how smooth or aggressive these cuts are. Meanwhile, saturation can be applied to specific areas, the low end (80, 100, 300, and 450 Hz), and the high frequency range (1, 3, 5, and 16 kHz).
What’s more, the saturation can be applied in parallel with the wet/dry mix control, and the final level control acts as a makeup gain knob. The EQ section is extremely straightforward, with musical Baxandall shelves at 40 Hz and 12 kHz, which are crucial areas to liven up or trim in the mastering process.
Next, the mid-side matrix lets you cut or boost the mid and side channels by 5 dB, so you can focus the center of the track or add more width. The de-esser is variable, so you can set it anywhere between 4750 Hz and 19 kHz, and you have an amount control and a gain reduction meter to determine the exact amount of de-essing taking place.

Finally, the clipper uses a simple one-button interface to add loudness to your master. With each section, you can bypass the processing so you can hear exactly what each part of the console is doing, which is helpful for beginners and professionals alike. Overall, the magic of the design is in its simplicity, with just the right tools for the job.
