Consistent Interruption Pult EQ: Free Pultec-Style Tube Equalizer
How about a Pultec-style tube equalizer and saturator that you can download for free? Pult EQ by Consistent Interruption is modeled after the famous Pultec EQP-1A – arguably one of the most famous and influential equalizers of all time. And best of all: the plugin is completely free and open-source.
Like the original, Pult EQ lets you boost and attenuate frequencies at the same time – one of the most unique features of the Pultec. This is an EQ that isn’t meant for pinpointing frequencies with surgical precision, but rather for broad tonal shaping and, most importantly, adding a healthy dose of “mojo” and coloration.
Pult EQ offers stereo and mid/side processing. In addition to the Pultec EQ emulation, the plugin also includes a handy tube saturator based on an algorithm by Airwindows.
Pult EQ is available for Windows and Linux as a VST3 plugin.
23DSP XY-FAT: Free Stereo Fattener with Intuitive Controls
XY-FAT by 23DSP is a free fattener effect for adding weight and warmth to your tracks. The freebie is a streamlined stereo version of the developer’s paid XY-FAT Pro plugin ($5). Unlike the full version, it doesn’t do mid/side processing, but it still offers the same unique approach to adding fatness and color.
The standout feature is an XY pad that makes it easy to find the perfect balance of color and fatness. According to 23DSP, XY-FAT uses a combination of compression, saturation, and tonal shaping to achieve the desired effect. In addition, the plugin includes a limiter, an input gain control with an autogain feature, and a mix slider.
XY-FAT is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
Quietformat TILTONE: Free Tilt EQ for Quick Tone Shaping and Saturation
Here’s a free EQ plugin that’s as easy as it gets. TILTONE by quietformat is a one-knob tilt EQ that affects the low and high frequencies simultaneously. Turn the knob to the left (Dark) to boost the lows and attenuate the highs. Turn it to the right to cut the lows and boost the highs for extra sparkle. Think of it as a one-knob tone control for quick and easy sound shaping.
According to quietformat, TILTONE also adds a bit of harmonic saturation as you push it further.
TILTONE is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
