Podcast Plugins Bundle: Free Speech Enhancement Plugins
Got a podcast? Then you’re going to love this free plugin bundle for quick and easy speech enhancement. Podcast Plugins consists of two easy-to-use plugins: one for the individual audio tracks and one for the master bus. Both work in tandem to optimize and finalize the level, timbre, and dynamics of your speech recordings.
At the core of the TRACK plugin is a 20-band spectral balancer that automatically adjusts the level of each band to match a target curve. You can adjust the desired timbre from warmer to brighter and dial in the desired amount of processing using the Strength slider. This plugin also includes a single-knob multiband compressor/expander that can be adjusted from “natural” to “radio-ish”. The input gain and target loudness are also adjustable.
The Podcast Plugins Bundle also includes a MASTER plugin that looks similar, but is optimized for master bus processing. Instead of the spectral balancer, it offers a simple tilt EQ for quick timbre adjustments. In addition, there are two leveler stages and a brickwall limiter.
Podcast Plugins is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST, VST3, AU, LV2, and CLAPformats.
Darkpalace Studio Tiny Caterpillar: Stereo Widening with a Twist
Tiny Caterpillar by Darkpalace Studio is a free stereo enhancer plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Based on the SpreadEQ module from the developer’s Butterfly plugin (€20), Tiny Caterpillar is designed to add stereo width without sacrificing mono compatibility. According to the developer, it also works great as a creative sound design tool.
It does this using up to 24 modes, each consisting of two opposing-gain bell filters – one for the left channel and one for the right. These modes are then spread out over the desired frequency range according to a selectable distribution curve (linear, exponential, blend). You can also adjust the gain and Q factor globally for all modes.
Tiny Caterpillar is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3, AU, LV2, and CLAP formats.
Analog Obsession EDComp: Quick and Easy Compressor
EDComp by Analog Obsession is a simple and very easy-to-use compressor plugin that does most of the work for you so that you can focus on your creative workflow. It’s a fixed-threshold design with a single Amount knob that adjusts the ratio from 1:1 to 10:1. The attack and release times are also fixed at 15 ms and 80 ms, respectively. While this means that it’s not as versatile as a fully adjustable compressor, it’s a great way to smoothly control your levels without getting lost in the details.
In addition, EDComp offers a choice of two modes. Besides a Clean mode, there’s an ED mode(emphasis/de-emphasis) that uses a tilt EQ to emphasize the lows and highs. According to Analog Obsession, ED mode is optimized for vocals, but also works well on other sources. Finally, ED Comp has a mix control for parallel processing, as well as an output level knob.
EDComp is available for macOS and Windows in VST, AU, and AAX formats.
