OhmForce is a manufacturer founded back in 2000, with a cult fan base that loves the creative freedom offered by its plugins and Eurorack modules. In its development, the Ohmicide plugin actually became a Eurorack module, and now it has been revamped in its latest iteration, Ohmicide[S]

OhmForce Ohmicide[S]

The new Ohmicide[S] plugin features 37 different algorithms across three distortion modes, seven processing stages, and advanced modulation capabilities. This allows you to use Ohmicide[S] in music production or sound design applications with analog hardware emulation, cubic and v-shaped distortions, and other outlandish sound melting tools.

More Information

The Ohmicide[S] starts with selecting an algorithm and then choosing from the Standard, the XXX (more organic and analogue) or the ODD (broken) modes. In the center of the console, you can use the two-knob upward compressor/expander section to control dynamics. Meanwhile, there is a noise gate section, a multimode filter, and a feedback section for shaping transients and tone.

The flexible signal flow lets you choose between serial and parallel processing modes, and apply different settings pre- or post-processing, with variable bands for the lowest frequencies (X), and four additional bands to precisely manage the processing across the frequency range.

The preset browser is really impressive, with excellent descriptions, graphics, and categories that suggest the ideal patches for a wide range of instruments. What’s more, each of the 108 presets uses a set of four macro controls, so you can access key sonic elements quickly and easily.

However, the Ohmicide[S] modulation section takes the cake, with a wide range of creative and rhythmic sources that can be assigned to any control in the plugin. Overall, this is a major upgrade that is sure to be loads of fun to use, whether you’re looking to add subtle character and animation or totally obliterate your sounds.

Ohmicide[S] is currently available directly from OhmForce for €99,00. License holders will need to log in to their accounts to see what discounts apply.

OhmForce Ohmicide Eurorack: Classic Distortion Plugin Turns Module

OhmForce Ohmicide Eurorack turns a classic distortion plugin into a versatile module that specializes in the art of obliterating your signal beyond recognition. The legendary plugin developer is set to unveil its first hardware module at Superbooth 24 in Berlin.

In an unexpected move, OhmForce delivers one of the first big surprises of Superbooth 24. The French plugin developer – most of you will remember classics like Frohmage, Hematohm, and Ohmboyz (most of which are now free, by the way) – has turned the Ohmicide distortion plugin into a Eurorack module. Get ready for 111 destructive algorithms that’ll turn your signals into a pile of rubble!

More Information

The stereo module offers a choice of 37 distortion types ranging from waveshaping and wavefolding to saturation, overdrive, fuzz, and bit crushing to all sorts of wacky stuff like a fridge emulation. Each mode then offers three variants to choose from with the Fam switch. Type and Fam are both CV-controllable. The effect of the Mod control and CV input depends on the selected mode.

While the plugin splits the signal into four frequency bands, OhmForce has changed the routing in the module to make it more usable in a Eurorack context. The Xover knob divides the signal into two bands, the lower of which remains unaffected by the distortion. This helps to maintain a defined bass range. Xover is also CV-controllable.

Moreover, Ohmicide Eurorack offers pre- and post-distortion lowpass filters for additional tone shaping options. Is OhmForce’s first effort in the world of Eurorack one of the most versatile distortion plugins? It must be a strong contender!

Price and availability

OhmForce Ohmicide Eurorack is available from 16 May 2024 for €465 / $419.

Why is it White? It looks super ugly

It used to be white with fake red blood splatter.
This version looks to have a better UI than the first version, which had tiny knobs and type and was almost unusable.
I hope they’ve updated their annoying preset system.
For the time, it sounded quite good. I don’t know if I would still feel that way.
