The new Suhr Pete Thorn Signature Standard HSS is his first new signature model in nearly 8 years and combines his new Thornbucker II humbuckers with a pair of V63 single-coils pickups. This super versatile HSS configuration should be a winner.
Pete Thorn Signature Standard HSS
This Suhr Pete Thorn Signature Standard HSS features the newPete Thorn and John Suhr designed Thornbucker II hum bucking pickup. With an alder body paired with the new roasted maple Pete Thorn Signature 60s soft V-neck shape, which Pete describes as a blend of my favourite vintage ’64 and my favourite Suhr Classic S necks. Elsewhere you get an ebony 10″-14″ compound radius fretboard fitted with 22 jumbo stainless steel frets.

Locking Bridge
It comes with Thorn’s favourite Wilkinson WVS-130 two post bridge with locking saddles, which is paired with a Tusq nut. As ever with Pete Thorn the guitar design may look quite simple. But a lot of thought has gone into the design. At a glance you could say, its just another HSS layout S-type guitar. But, I very much doubt that this is the case.
Suhr guitars are top notch and everything about this design has been well thought out, including simple things like the new pickguard shape, through to the nitty gritty of what pickups will sound best in an HSS configuration.
Thornbucker II
As I mentioned this signature model features the all new Thornbucker II humbucker in the bridge position. Described as a ballsy higher output model based around an Alnico 2 magnet, and paired with the V63 single-coil pickups for maximum flexibility.

I get the feeling that these models will be very popular with Suhr fans, and anyone looking for a solid workhorse instrument for playing live and for studio work. After all Mr Thorn is one of the busiest guitarists on the planet and needs solid tools to work with. His distillation of all the right components should pay dividends for guitarist who opt to buy one of his new signature guitars.
This new Pete Thorn Signature Standard HSS is available in Graphite Metallic, Garnet Red, Ocean Turquoise and Inca Silver finishes.
