The new Fender Player Series now has a Lead II and a Lead III model officially launching for 2020.
These guitars aren’t exactly a surprise, as the Lead III model was leaked online via Reverb a couple of weeks back.
These two Lead models first appeared as early as 1979 in the Fender catalogue. Many players I grew up with have fond memories of these oddball, double-cutaway hard tail guitars, and it is nice to see them back in 2020.
Fender Player Series Lead II
The Fender Player Series Lead II comes with a pair of dual-slanted Player Series single-coil pickups wired via dual-toggle switches, one for pickup selection and the other one for phase-reverse. The guitar comes with a modern C-shape neck with medium jumbo frets.
It will be available in Crimson Red Transparent, Black and Neon Green finishes.
RRP – USD 599
Fender Player Series Lead III
This is the model that leaked earlier in the month, so we have already seen pictures and specs for it online.
The Lead III is loaded with two Player humbucking pickups. Again, you get dual-toggle switches, one for pickup selection and this time, the other for coil-splits.
It comes in Olympic White, Sienna Sunburst and Metallic Purple finishes.
We got a chance to try out the new Fender Lead III model at the NAMM show and you can hear it in our demo video below.
RRP – USD 599
