Let the spirits guide your sequences with the fabulously cosmic Melody Oracle musical pattern divination system. Part board game, part exploratory sonic universe.
Basically, it’s a pattern-generating sequencer and synthesizer. But one designed around a fractally inspired triangular interface that incorporates board game dynamics and mystical energy beams.
The surface of the Melody Oracle is divided into 6 zones. Each zone is a switching matrix for generating different aspects of the musical output. The zones have an array of touch-plate-style triangle contacts. The downward-facing triangles dictate the speed of change, whereas the upwards-facing triangle at the top of each zone inverts the pattern. The first row of three handles octaves, and the second and third rows handle tuned notes and intervals.
Patterns are generated by placing the included metal meeples onto the contacts. As you place the pieces, tones and patterns begin to emerge. The three interval zones work in a 3-bit logic system to provide 8 different notes. Just keep placing and moving pieces to encourage different melodies and patterns to fall out of the machine.
It’s completely captivating. A Magic Pulsewave or “AMP” also supply a pair of 8-sided dice to, as it states on the website, “Invoke the endless song of cosmic order and chaos”. Oh, yes, please!
I’m not entirely sure what sort of sound-generation device is inside the box. However, there is a Wave Expander that adds the “Chrominancer” colour window as well as CV and Gate outputs so you can bring the wisdom of the Melody Oracle to your other synths and modular.
Magic Pulsewave also has the fascinating Touch Tones; a 3-octave touch-activated autoharmony synthesizer. You should probably spend some time on the website absorbing the vibes of this marvellous gear.
The Melody Oracle is $333 plus shipping and is available by contacting Mr Andy M. Puls via the website or Instagram. You can buy it with the Wave Expander for $654.
