Martin Guitars has just announced the new 0-17 Jason Isbell and 0-10E Retro Jason Isbell signature acoustic guitars. These have been inspired by the guitar he used on Foxes in the Snow.

Foxes in the Snow

These two new models were based on the original 1940 0-17 Martin that Isbell used on his Foxes in the Snow. He has also got a new signature set of strings to go with the release. The  0-17 Jason Isbell is the high-end model featuring Brazilian rosewood and sinker mahogany; however, there is also the more affordable 0-10E Retro Jason Isbell model.

0-17 Jason Isbell

This limited run of 50 guitars is the top-tier models and features some high-end woods highly regarded for their tone. They are based on Jason’s original 1940 0-17 with a few slight differences, including the size of the pickguard.

Tone Woods

Key to the sound is the solid sinker mahogany body and the Adirondack spruce used for the Golden Era scalloped X-bracing. The neck also uses sinker mahogany and comes with a smaller ’30s-style V profile. Sinker mahogany is matured for up to 100 years by lying on a riverbed, and so it is in short supply!

They also come with Brazilian rosewood fretboards and bridges, so nothing has been spared in terms of quality woods.

Hardware includes a set of Waverly nickel open-gear tuners and a bone nut, and it comes with Style 17 Brazilian Rosewood purling. All very nice specifications, in keeping with a vintage-style Martin.

They come in a vintage-gloss finish and are available in both right- and left-handed models.

Available at Thomann in right and left-handed versions, priced $6333/£5699/€6499 each.
