Minions wannabe Pharrell Williams has joined ROLI as their Chief Creative Officer. Williams, producer, songwriter and fashion statement’s first task was to release a groundbreaking joy-filled studiopack for ROLI’s Noise app for iOS.
Happy by Pharrell
They’ve taken our favourite sing-and-dance-along tune and deconstructed it into chords, basslines and vocals. Inside the free Noise app you can then re-arrange it to build your own song. Before you know it you’ll be skipping down the road making your own video to go along with it.
The studiopack bundle is completely free and you don’t have to own a Seaboard or BLOCK device to use it. Simply download the bundle and you can mix like a Mr. P Williams all day long.
Meanwhile Pharrell is helping ROLI design the next generation of music creation devices. ROLI say that Seaboard and BLOCKS are just the beginning of their long-term mission (you can almost hear the “bwa ha ha ha ha”). After visiting ROLI’s London offices he remarked:
“Music touches all of us, and for a long time I’ve been passionate about finding ways to share the power of music with more people. When I met Roland Lamb and ROLI, I immediately felt we were working towards exactly the same goals, and so I’m super excited that we’re kicking off this partnership.”
So often when recording artists get involved with product it’s in order to produce a signature edition of something that just makes everyone money by trading on celebrity. This seems very different aside from my gentle teasing I think this is a really positive thing. Creatives and technology engineers should always be colliding in new and interesting ways.
