The Jim Dandy models aren’t new; they’ve been part of the Gretsch range for some time. However, the manufacturer regularly releases new editions. The model is loosely based on the Rex line of instruments offered by mail-order catalog in the 1930s, ‘40s, and ’50s.
Last year, we reported on a limited-edition Jim Dandy Solid Top. This new model doesn’t feature solid wood, but that’s no reason to be disappointed. For €249.00, you still get a lot for your money.
The top, back, and sides are made of laminated sapele, a wood known for its warm, balanced tone and good projection. The classic C-profile nato neck is suitable for both beginners and experienced players looking for a straightforward second guitar. The walnut fingerboard with a 305 mm (12-inch) radius provides a more modern playing feel.
18 Fret
The 18 vintage frets perfectly complement the guitar’s overall design: no modern high-fret shredding, but rather an earthy, classic feel in the lower and middle registers. The 43 mm nut width provides ample space for a relaxed, comfortable playing experience, while the synthetic bone nut ensures accurate intonation and a clear tone from the very first string.
Visually, the Gretsch Jim Dandy Parlor relies on tried-and-tested vintage elements: white pearloid dot inlays on the fretboard, a tortoise pickguard, and open die-cast tuners with nickel hardware consistently underscore the nostalgic look. A compensated walnut bridge completes the design, ensuring good intonation across the entire fretboard.
