The Fender Made In Japan Limited Hybrid II Sandblast series features three models, each with a sandblasted ash body.
Fender Japan Sandblast Series
This latest Fender Japan limited run consists of three Hybrid II Sandblast models: a Stratocaster, a Telecaster, and a Jazz Bass. Each has a sandblasted ash body with a black pickguard and matching black plastics for a stripped-back aesthetic.
Medium Jumbo
Other standard features across the three models include a Modern C maple neck with a satin finish and a 9.5-inch radius rosewood fretboard. The fretboards have medium jumbo frets, white dot markers, and a bone nut. These frets are wider and taller than those of the regular Hybrid II series, so they are slightly different from those of the regular models.
Hybrid II Custom
All the models come with high-output Fender Hybrid II Custom pickups, and these all have standard control layouts for each guitar.
However, the Telecaster does come with an upgraded 4-way switching system rather than the standard 3-way switch. This adds Position 4 – Neck and Bridge pickups in Series.
The Strat has a modern two-point tremolo, and the Telecaster model has a three-saddle bridge along with a set of vintage-style locking tuners. There is nothing too out of the ordinary regarding hardware, so it should all work nicely.
Limited Run
This could be one of the more reserved releases from Fender Japan, but those selected ash bodies do look good, given their strong wood grain patterns.
Once again, this is a limited run for the Japanese market, so we aren’t sure if they will make it into Europe and the USA. However, a few may make it out of the Japanese market and into the hands of Fender fans worldwide, so you might come across one.
