FabFilter presents its new flagship product in the field of dynamics processing with Pro-C 3, which builds on the proven precision of its predecessor with numerous modern tools. The plugin is aimed at producers, engineers, and sound designers who are looking for a flexible and musical solution for their everyday mixing and mastering tasks. FabFilter redesigned the user interface and improved the algorithms while retaining the workflow that the software is known for. Pro-C 3 is available now and represents a noticeable evolution in both sound and usability.

FabFilter has Released a Revised Compressor

At its core are 14 revised compressor algorithms, ranging from transparent to characterful. Each variant, whether Clean, Opto, or Vari-Mu, has its own sonic focus and responds individually to different signals. Of particular note is the newly integrated upward compression, which, when combined with classic downward dynamics, opens up new possibilities for sound shaping. Additionally, an intelligent auto-gain system automatically balances level ratios, ensuring consistent dynamics throughout the signal flow. The sidechain section has also been expanded. Both internal and external sidechains can now be designed with filters from the Pro-Q, including all-pass and brickwall slopes of up to 96 dB per octave.

For complex projects, such as surround productions or Dolby Atmos mixes, the Pro-C 3 supports setups of up to 9.1.6 channels. FabFilter has also integrated host tempo triggering. This feature allows you to design rhythmic compression movements in sync with the project tempo. The new Auto Threshold mode ensures constant compression regardless of the signal level, a useful feature for changing dynamic curves. With lookahead of up to 20 milliseconds, hold parameters, and a variable knee, the compressor responds precisely to even the slightest transients.

Pro-C 3 is State-of-the-art – Offering Modern Features and More

Visually, it demonstrates that modern design and technical precision can go hand in hand. Its scalable interface offers detailed and reduced layouts that can be customized to suit your workflow. The graphical display provides precise, real-time feedback on gain reduction, attack, and release, simplifying sound design. The new Character mode offers analog saturation options, including “Tube,” “Diode,” and “Bright,” which add sonic depth and harmonic nuances to the signal. These features make Pro-C 3 a versatile tool that strikes the perfect balance between surgical precision and musical expression. It establishes itself as the new standard in modern dynamics processing.

Another exciting feature of Pro-C 3 is its seamless integration into FabFilter’s modular channel strip concept. The new instance management in Pro-Q 4 allows you to centrally control all open plugins, such as Pro-C 3, Pro-DS, and Pro-G. This feature provides a quick overview of all processing chains, saving valuable time, especially when starting a mix session. Rather than tediously switching between individual windows, you can adjust the parameters of multiple instances directly from a single view. This workflow is extremely efficient, especially in complex projects. Very cool!

FabFilter Pro-C 3 is now available at Thomann* for $165.00 / £149.00 / 169.00€. You can also purchase the upgrade here at Thomann* for $82.00 / £74.00 / 84.00€. If you own other FabFilter plugins, check your account on the manufacturer’s website for a customized deal price.

The Next Big Compressor is Likely About to be Released!

[13 January 2026] With a new teaser on social media, FabFilter appears to be announcing the Pro-C 3 compressor plugin, the next generation of the popular Pro-C 2 compressor. For years, Pro-C 2 has been the standard tool for mixing and mastering. Hardly any other plugin combines such precise behavior with musical transparency, whether in professional studios or among ambitious producers. Therefore, the fact that FabFilter is preparing a successor is sure to generate a lot of interest. After all, few companies understand how to combine technical sophistication with an intuitive workflow better. The Pro-C 3 is likely to be more than just an update; it’s likely to be another step toward smarter, more creative dynamics processing.

FabFilter Pro-C 3: Everything We Know So Far About the New Compressor

One possible innovation could be automatic gain matching, which automatically adjusts the volume after compression to match the output signal. This would allow the effect to be assessed more quickly and objectively without having to constantly readjust the output level manually. This would allow users to assess the effect more quickly and objectively, eliminating the need for constant manual adjustments to the output level. An improved visual representation of dynamic processes is also likely. FabFilter is known for its clear and fluid graphical representation of complex processes. Helpful additions could include AI-supported suggestions for attack and release times, the ability to draw curves, and a spectrum overlay that shows the actual compression ranges.

More Information

FabFilter is also likely to focus on sidechain processing. Pro-C 3 could offer advanced filter models that shape the control signal more precisely, for example. Adaptive sidechain modes that automatically adjust to the input material are also conceivable. In the creative realm, a multiband or parallel mode could combine the functionality of the classic Pro-MB with the workflow of the Pro-C 3, for which there is also no update in sight. This would allow the compressor to be used more flexibly in modern productions such as stem mixing or mastering where subtle dynamic control and maximum transparency are crucial.

More Intelligence, More Control, More Sound – or Something Else?

It would also be interesting to see if FabFilter redesigns the GUI while maintaining its clear structure. A configurable interface that adapts to different workflows could appeal to producers. The integration of intelligent preset suggestions similar to AI-based assistants from other manufacturers would also be possible – but without the typical automatism that dictates the sound. FabFilter traditionally focuses on control rather than presets, and this is likely to continue with Pro-C 3. Furthermore, it would be interesting to see a display of all plugin instances in one window, similar to Pro-Q 4.

Although no official details have been confirmed, the teaser image suggests that FabFilter is attempting to bridge the gap between engineering and musical sensitivity once again. Unfortunately, it is unclear when Pro-C 3 will be released. It remains to be seen whether FabFilter will present another compressor that redefines the standard for modern mixing and mastering, as its predecessors did. We will definitely keep you up to date here.
