At NAMM 2026, ESP/LTD will present an impressive lineup of guitars that are sure to delight fans of heavy guitar sounds. Alongside new E-II models and fresh color variations, the spotlight is on a particular signature instrument: the first ESP/LTD guitar designed by Gojira guitarist Joe Duplantier. The LTD JD-1 combines a striking silver sunburst finish with a minimalist yet characterful design. A single DiMarzio JD Fortitude pickup delivers the signature Gojira sound, and the offset design makes a clear visual and sonic statement. But that’s not all!

Signature Models with History and Character

In addition to Gojira, metal legend Jeff Hanneman is receiving a new signature model posthumously. The LTD JH-200 CTM pays homage to the late Slayer guitarist. It comes in classic black with a Floyd Rose tremolo and two ESP humbuckers. Alexi Laiho, known for his distinctive style, is being honored with two signature guitars: the black Alexi Sawtooth SE with white pinstripes and the yellow Alexi Arrowhead SE. Both models feature uncompromising aesthetics and the signature sound that defines Laiho’s playing style.

ESP/LTD is also stepping up its game in the baritone sector. Slaughter-to-Prevail guitarist Jack Simmons gets the JS-7 Baritone, a seven-string V model clearly geared toward modern metal. Two Fishman Open Core Modern 3-Voice humbuckers provide enormous punch and defined depth, and the fixed bridge guarantees stability and precision.

The new SC-607 Baritone by Stephen Carpenter (Deftones), with its striking magenta finish, is no exception. It is equipped with two Fishman Fluence SRC Signature humbuckers. These models demonstrate that baritone guitars have evolved from niche products into an integral part of the modern guitar sound.

The Japanese E-II Series Continues to Grow

Japanese-made E-II models will also see fresh additions in 2026. In particular, the popular E-II Eclipse model will be given a classy new look with a black satin finish while retaining its classic features. With two EMG pickups and Gotoh locking tuners, the Eclipse is a reliable workhorse for the studio and stage.

The Horizon HT-II has a hardtail bridge and Fishman Fluence humbucker pickups. The Horizon FR-II has a Floyd Rose tremolo and EMG pickups for a more aggressive response.

Conclusion

As usual, the Japanese E-II models are in the higher price range, which is understandable given their craftsmanship quality. The LTD models are slightly less expensive and characterized by solid workmanship and distinctive sounds. Notably, some models, such as the new Jeff Hanneman and George Lynch signatures, remain moderately priced and affordable for aspiring guitarists.

With the Gojira JD-1, ESP/LTD is making a strong statement for 2026: less show, more sound. While other manufacturers focus on effects and gimmicks, ESP remains true to its mission of building uncompromising instruments that do exactly what they were created for – making music with character.
