More Information

Developer Vitling says that he developed this somewhat menacing-looking software synth for his Bow Church music project. Crypt is a hyper-unison synth that layers up to 64 detuned oscillators for seriously fat supersaw and supersquare sounds. Compared to similar synths with lots of oscillators, Crypt is fairly CPU-efficient, even at high voice counts.

In addition to the oscillator section with Unison, Spread, and Shape parameters, Crypt offers a resonant filter and two envelopes for filter and amp. There’s also a suite of built-in effects, including a phaser for those spacious take-off effects, a delay, and one-knob distortion (“Dirt”) and reverb (“Space”) effects.

Crypt is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats. The source code is also available via GitHub, so you can build it for other platforms. If you like the synth, we encourage you to support the developer through the links provided on the website.

More Information

Transient Control by quietformat does just what it says: it lets you quickly adjust and shape the transients of your tracks. Instead of separate controls for attack and sustain, Transient Control has a single knob that does it all. Turn it to the left to boost the attack and reduce the sustain, and vice versa.

In addition, there’s a Smooth knob for creating a softer feel, a Sensitivity control for adjusting transient detection, and a Drive knob for adding tasty saturation, density, and presence.

Transient Control is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.

Analog Obsession MidBoss: Mid-Frequency Saturator and Sweetener

MidBoss by Analog Obsession is an analog-style saturator and sweetener that focuses on the midrange. However, the developer says that it’ll also slightly affect the highs and lows depending on the selected type.

MidBoss offers a choice of six types of saturation: Edgy, Crunchy, Breaky, Silky, Bassy, and Dusty. The rest is pretty self-explanatory: crank up the Drive knob to add the desired amount of saturation, and adjust the Dry/Wet mix to your liking.

MidBoss is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
