Arturia MiniFreak Vocoder – What’s Good for the Micro is Good for the Mini
Goosey, Goosey, Have a Gander at This!
In what some may say was an inevitable update, Arturia introduce the MiniFreak Vocoder. Same MiniFreak but with a new engine and additional gooseneck microphone.
When Arturia dropped the MicroFreak Vocoder, it was a real surprise! Aside from a hugely useful new engine and a new gooseneck microphone, the update revealed that the headphone out socket was actually also an audio input socket!
It was like the gift that kept on giving, and we wondered what other hidden surprises there were. So when the MiniFreak came out, we all wondered if such an upgrade would happen. It wouldn’t be as much of a surprise because the MiniFreak also sported an audio input.

The Arturia MiniFreak Vocoder Edition
And here we are. The MiniFreak Vocoder edition is here and just like its little sibling, it is as much fun, if not more so. The original MiniFreak is already a hugely capable synth that punches, quite literally, well above its weight.
Its diminutive frame hides a vast array of sound generation possibilities, with its digital oscillators and analogue filters. Now it comes with a 16-band Vocoder that can be used with all of MiniFreak’s amazing internals. You can throw external and internal sources into it for spectacular results, not to mention all those amazing FX!

New Colour, Added Mic, Same MiniFreak
MiniFreak Vocoder is identical to the existing MiniFreak, except for the new, all-white ‘paint job’ and the addition of the gooseneck mic. Unlike the MicroFreak, whose gooseneck mic had a custom made plug that slotted seamlessly into its rear, The MiniFreak microphone comes with its own unique stand.
Arturia tell me this design was chosen to eliminate vibrations from entering the mic from playing the keyboard. It slots neatly under the MiniFreak, but its independence from the keyboard allows for more convenient placement, although you may need to use an extension.

MiniFreak V and Existing MiniFreak Owners
As well as the hardware, MiniFreak Vocoder comes with MiniFreak V, which also receives the vocoder update! And if, like me, you’re an existing MiniFreak owner, there’s a free update for your hardware to deliver the new vocoder engine. Just plug any mic in and away you go, fahr’n, fahr’n, fahr’ning auf der Autobahn!
The Arturia MiniFreak Vocoder Edition is available to order now for just €619.
