There’s been a lot of excitement about this weird sampler module since this video appeared on Vimeo a couple of months ago (below). It shows some experimentation with a blank-faced ER-301 prototype. Previous to that there’s been a few glimpses on Twitter and around social media but very little to tell us what it actually does.

Orthogonal had put a preliminary release date down as the end of July and of course that’s come and gone. According to a recent tweet the software wasn’t ready, but now it is and they are poised for release. Eager beavers were able to reserve a unit although reservations have now closed. They say from the first run they will have free stock to sell.

To tease us just a little bit with information they tweeted what looks like the original idea sketched out in OneNote. The highlights include uncompressed Wav loading, direct sampling to buffer, looper, granular delay, 4-track recording and maybe wavetable synthesis. The key user interface concept is “Divide – chain – assign”. Each track appears to have a gate input and an in/out socket. How much of this is implemented in the finished product is hard to say.

The wave display looks amazing and appears to be completely manipulated by other modules patching into it. It’s a very different form of Eurorack module and I can’t think of anything quite like it. Definitely one to watch out for and as soon as we have more information we’ll let you know.

Price has already been announced at $875 including shipping to anywhere in the world.

Very little information is available on their old school website.
