Blackstar’s Beam series has turned out to be quite a success for practice amps. Both the Beam Mini and Beam Solo hit that sweet spot. With the new Beam Control, you get a wireless footswitch for the Beam Mini to use it live or in the rehearsal room. And with the Beam Mni Wireless Rig, Blackstar pairs the Control with the Mini amp and a case.

Blackstar Beam Control: Battery-powered wireless footswitch

With the Beam Control, Blackstar is doing what Positive Grid has done with the Spark Control X. Offer a wireless footswitch to control an amp from a distance. In case of the Beam Control, you get four footswitches, an expression pedal input, and a USB-C jack to charge the 12-hour battery.

Blackstar says the Control works with all Beam products, so it should also be pairable with the headphone amp Solo. For its workflow, the Control features three modes: Patch Mode, FX Mode, and Custom Mode. With Patch Mode, you can wirelessly (through Bluetooth) switch between the five virtual rigs that are stored on the amp.

More Information

In FX Mode, you can toggle some of the effects in a single preset, for example, activate a reverb, flanger, or boost just for the solo. And in Custom Mode, you can decide what each switch does through the Beam app.

What is the Beam Mini Wireless Rig?

In addition to the Control, Blackstar is also releasing the Beam Mini Wireless Rig. This is a bundle that combines the Beam Mini, the Beam Control, the Airwire i58, and a compact transport case to store everything.

With the Airwire i58, you get a wireless guitar system at 5.8 gHz that is, so you can set up the Mini on one side of the room and rock out on the other side without getting tangled up.

You get a range of up to 35 m and no more than 6 ms of latency. The wireless system also features a switchable Cable Tone control that attempts to recreate the high-end roll-off that can happen in wireless systems. In terms of battery, the i58 lasts up to 9 hours.
