NoiseWorks PloseAssist: A Free Plugin for Dealing with Plosives
Wave goodbye to plosives with this intelligent free plugin.
With NoiseWorks PloseAssist, you get a completely free tool specifically designed for removing plosives from vocal and speech recordings.
Whether you’re doing voiceover for video content or recording a rap vocal for an artist’s latest single, plosives have a nasty habit of crashing the party and spoiling your fun. Luckily, NoiseWorksAudio has blessed us with a free plugin for reducing plosives from individual vocal tracks in your DAW.
NoiseWorks PloseAssist
The culprits are usually those obnoxious popping ‘B’ and ‘P’ sounds that can be tricky to remove. However, the PloseAssist processing algorithm targets each transient pop directly and reduces the low end, only for an instant. The result is that the rest of your vocal recording remains untouched and sounds as natural as it did before.
The beauty of this workflow is that you don’t have to set or adjust a threshold control like you typically would on a noise gate. Instead, PloseAssist does the detective work automatically. The low-end cut happens around 250 Hz, and this only happens when a plosive is detected, which is then shown on the plugin’s visualizer.
NoiseWorks has also added a useful delta monitoring function, so you can actually isolate and listen to exactly what is being removed. This adds a touch of precision to your workflow, so you can ensure that none of your precious vocal is getting lost in the cosmos. By adjusting the amount control, you can determine how aggressively or gently the plosive is cut, while the Sub control introduces an additional cut below 100 Hz.

Meanwhile, with the Range control, you can determine the extremity of the reduction, which is adjustable between 6 and 30 dB. There are also two different processing modes with different lookahead times. While the Low Latency mode (17.5 ms) is designed for live monitoring, the Balance mode (137.5 ms) is better for mixing. Finally, for those who need even more extensive plosive control, the ‘High-Quality’ algorithm can be accessed within the VoiceAssist Advanced plugin.*
