The load boxes from Two Notes are among the most popular on the market. Following the Captor X Plus released this spring, the manufacturer is now unveiling the Torpedo Captor X Pro: the largest version of the Torpedo series to date.

Torpedo Captor X Pro: First Impression
Admittedly, the naming convention—from “Normal” to “Plus” to “Pro”—in the Captor X series doesn’t exactly make it easy to tell them apart. The Torpedo Captor X Pro isn’t just a beefed-up version of the Plus; Two Notes has packed in nearly every loadbox feature the technology has to offer.
If you play with different cabinets (or tour a lot and don’t bring your own), or if you want more fine-tuning options when “attenuating,” you won’t find a more versatile device on the market.
Loadbox and Attenuator
The Torpedo Captor X Pro’s reactive load can be switched between 4, 8, and 16 ohms depending on the cab setup and can handle up to 150 watts. This places the Captor X Pro between the Captor X+ (100 watts) and the Reload II (200 watts).
To respond more flexibly to different amps, the Captor X Pro now offers three load voicings to choose from: Reactive Natural for smoother highs and more resonance, Reactive Presence for a tighter bass sound and more definition in the highs, and Resistive mode. This mode offers the flattest impedance curve for an exceptionally smooth response.
Compared to the Plus model, the built-in attenuator offers a whopping 13 attenuation levels instead of three, plus a mute function and full volume.
DynIR, IR Loader, and Effects
The Pro also includes the True Stereo DynIR Engine we’ve seen on the Captor X Plus. It comes with 24 impulse responses for guitar and bass—each featuring eight microphone positions—and 12 room simulations. As with the Plus, you can distribute two virtual microphones or two static IRs across the stereo image or route them separately to the two XLR outputs in dual-mono mode, each with its own effects chain.
Another area where Two Notes has stepped up its game is effects: the Torpedo Captor X Pro includes 6, namely Enhancer, Twin Tracker, a Reverb with twelve algorithms, Mic EQ, Output EQ, Noise Gate, as well as a tuner.
I/O and Workflow of the Torpedo Captor X Pro
A first in the world of Two Notes products, the Torpedo Captor X Pro is controlled via a color display, two rotary knobs, and several quick-access buttons. With such a wide range of features, you’ll appreciate the 128 preset slots, which you can also access and switch using the MIDI 5-pin DIN jack (Program Change).
In addition to the MIDI input, Torpedo Captor X Pro’s includes two FX loops, another first. These are located at different points in the signal path. First, you get the mono pre-loop, which sits before the DSP section, for example, to loop in a compressor or EQ.
You can also use its return as a line input for preamps and modelers, while the send serves as an unprocessed amp DI. The stereo post-loop comes after the speaker simulation and can be used for delay and reverb effects. Also included: two XLR outputs and a headphone output.
