Maximum Overdrive for SH-MAX and 2 Free Banks for Your Arturia Synths – Sounds and Presets
Maximum Overdrive expands your Cherry Audio SH-MAX experience, and we have two more free banks for Arturia’s Pigments 7 and JUP-8000 V!
Much like the hardware world, it seems like we’re in a bit of a lull when it comes to new sounds and presets, but luckily, we have some great products to show you. This week we’ve got new sounds from James Dyson for Cherry Audio’s new SH-MAX.
Alongside Maximum Overdrive, there’s an evocative and moving new library from Sonora Cinematic for Audiobox’s Soundbox, plus a couple more free banks for Arturia’s Pigments 7 and JUP-8000 V.
This Week’s Sounds and Presets
Maximum Overdrive for Cherry Audio SH-MAX by James Dyson
By now, you will have seen and heard that Cherry Audio have kicked off their 2026 release schedule with the rather brilliant SH-MAX, an homage to three of Roland’s most underrated synths: the SH-5, SH-7 and SH-3A (with a soupçon of SH-2000 and Roland System 100)!
It’s a powerful combination that exudes that gorgeous Roland tone of the mid-1970s, enhanced for the 21st century with 16 voices of polyphony, a ton of FX, polyphonic aftertouch and much, much more. If you haven’t tried it already (there’s a demo version), what are you waiting for?

As always, James Dyson, one of Cherry Audio’s regular sound designers, has gone and made way more than necessary, so Cherry Audio have packaged these up into a separate bundle that will further expand and enhance your SH-MAX experience. Enter Maximum Overdrive!
Maximum Overdrive contains 100 additional presets covering every style and aspect of this new, powerful synth, including leads, basses, duophonic patches, pads, FX, chords and more. James describes these sounds as inspired by the sounds of late 1970s Sheffield (think Human League, Cabaret Voltaire) to the futuristic cyberscapes of Neo Tokyo.
Obviously, you will need a copy of SH-MAX to use these sounds, and once you’ve bought them, they will automatically download and install themselves into the synth. You can grab this pack for just $9.99 from the Cherry Audio store.
The Founder’s Locker: Dark Veil for Audiomodern Soundbox by Sonora Cinematic
Sonora Cinematic continue their support for Audiomodern’s pretty cool Soundbox platform with this latest release, The Founder’s Locker: Dark Veil. It is the first in the Founder’s Locker series, thus named because they come from the founder of Sonora, Alessandro Mastroianni.
Born not of market research, but from pure experimentation by Alessandro, this series will feature some pretty cool instruments if Dark Veil is anything to go by. The sound source for this collection is a collection of recordings of bowed instruments from the North Caucasus.
For those whose geography isn’t what it ought to be, this is a region of southwest Russia, between the Black and Caspian seas, and it contains the likes of Chechnya, Dagestan, and North Ossetia. Alessandro took these recordings and began processing them.
Feeding these samples through pedals, effects chains and amps, the sounds evolved into the fifteen presets we have on offer here. As you will see in the video demo, this library makes use of a lot of Soundbox’s features, including MPE, but MPE controllers are not mandatory.

Given the uncertainty around Kontakt, now might be the time to begin exploring alternatives and it seems that with the support of companies like Sonora Cinematic, Audiomodern’s Soundbox would make a great alternative. Pick up Dark Veil for just £9 here.
Pigments Vol.4 and JUP-8000 V Vol.2 by Larry Poulton
I’ve featured Larry’s work in this column before, and I will continue to do so if these two latest banks are anything to go by! Larry, by his own admission, isn’t a professional sound designer, spending an hour or two a day on his creations, made simply for the thrill and fun of doing so.

He has provided numerous banks of sounds for a good number of Arturia’s V Collection synth plugins, such as Analog Lab, JUN-6 V, JUP-8 V, Pure LoFi, MS-20 V, SEM V3, SQ-80 V, Synthx V, Minifreak and many more!
If you own any of these instruments, then you could do far, far worse than pick some of these up, especially as they are free, both in terms of cost and royalties! There is some great work here, and the two latest banks are for Pigments 7 and JUP-8000 V, one of Arturia’s latest additions to the V Collection.

Pigments Collection Vol.4 contains a range of 32 ambient soundscapes, classic key and FX, whilst the JUP-8000 Vol.2 features 32 warm pads, sequences and more. Oh, and did i say these were all free? Pop along to Larry’s website, fill your boots, and PLEASE be sure to ‘Buy Him A Coffee’ and/or leave a donation via PayPal!
