EVH’s Digital Amp:
EVH 5150III Hypersonic 6L6
EVH certainly isn’t the first manufacturer to digitally model a legendary tube amp of their own with the 5150III Hypersonic 6L6. Fender has been doing just that, very successfully, with their Tone Master Amp series. The idea is simple.

They’ve recreated an iconic amp’s sound and appearance as closely as possible, ironed out a few quirks from the original, and added features only a digital model can offer. The Hypersonic is a 50-watt digital power amp that delivers loads of headroom with a dynamic range that closely mimics its analog predecessor.

Combined with a 1×12″ Celestion EVH G12H 30W Anniversary Series, we’ve seen (and heard!) in the 5150III 50W EL34 and 5150III 50W 6L6 already, this is one sonic beast. You get the dynamic reaction of an all-tube amp without the need to replace the 6L6s. Digital modelling also allows significant weight reduction, as the 5150III Hypersonic 6L6 combo weighs only 17.2 kilograms (39.15 lbs)
Three Voicings and a Footswich
Like its analog predecessor, the 5150III Hypersonic offers three voicings: Clean, Crunch, and Lead). There are independent controls for voicing 1/2 and voicing 3 for Gain, Master Volume, and separate three-band EQs. The Lead voicing also features a gate switch.

Furthermore, you get global controls for Reverb, Resonance and Presence to dial in your sound. On the back, the 5150III Hypersonic combo features a headphone output, a 5-pin MIDI input, a USB-C jack for firmware updates, an FX loop, a balanced XLR line output, an optional cab sim with two IRs to choose from, and an output attenuator selector. Besides the 50 watts full output, the Hypersonic model allows 35W, 25W, 15W, 5W, and 1W.

So you can play the amp on stage, in the rehearsal room and at home and always match its output to your surroundings. The bundle also includes a 5-way footswitch that allows to remotely switch between the three voicings, and to independently turn the combo’s reverb and FX loop on or off. Pretty versatile!
