B00GA: Experimental Rhythms from Audiothing and Hainbach
Hainbach has once again teamed up with AudioThing to release a plugin that ventures far off the beaten track. And once again, a rare device from Hainbach’s seemingly inexhaustible collection of vintage test equipment served as inspiration. B00GA is an experimental rhythm generator derived from the Hewlett-Packard Word Generator 8006A. According to Hainbach, the device was originally used to generate complex waveforms for testing logic circuits and telecommunications equipment.

But in Hainbach’s hands, everything becomes a musical instrument. B00GA transforms clicks, pulses, and noise into unique rhythms and patterns that evolve subtly over time. The tempo range of the integrated dual sequencer maxes out at 5 kHz, well within the audio range. This means that B00GA can also generate drones and tonal textures at high speeds.
Only some of the included sound banks were sampled from the original device. B00GA also contains sounds from other sources such as digital tone generators, drum machines, analog synths, and even field recordings. You can even import your own samples.
The integrated effects section includes a spring reverb, a phaser, a tape delay, and an emulation of a passive bandpass filter.
This unusual software drum machine runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST, VST3, AU, AAX, and CLAP formats. An iOS version is also available. You can get B00GA at Plugin Boutique*.
KAONA Fresh: A Breath of Fresh Air in Eurorack

KAONA Fresh – doesn’t that sound a bit like a cool drink under the Caribbean sun? And cool it certainly is: this 2 HP module is like an A/C for your Eurorack! Say goodbye to overheating problems.
KAONA Fresh consists of a vertically mounted fan that expels warm air from the rack through a ventilation slot in the front panel. The fan speed is adjustable. According to KAONA, the module is barely audible at low speeds. At high speeds, the temperature in the rack drops by several degrees within a few minutes. Genius!
KAONA Fresh is available directly from the manufacturer for €98.40.
