FM Depths for Yamaha DX7 by Nick Klimenko

It speaks volumes for the impact of a synthesizer when people are still making presets for it over 40 years after it launched. It also helps when that synth has been cloned as much as the DX7, prolonging the experience long after the last DX7 rolled off the factory floor in Hamamatsu.

More Information

In the age-old tradition of building a bank of 32 presets for the DX7, Nick Klimenko has created a bank of ambient and analog like tones that can be used on the original DX7 and its many iterations and impersonators. These sounds will work on the Mk.I and II DX7, the TX7, the TX816 and TX802 as well as things like the KORG Volca FM, DEXED and Arturia’s DX7 V amongst others.

Containing drones, strings, pads, plucks, bells and moving sequences, these are more than just your typical FM tones and are a welcome addition to what is already an over-populated market. These sounds exude warmth, something not always associated with FM synthesis.

You can buy FM Depths for just €15 from the LFO.store now!

Space Explorations for KORG opsix by OttO K. Schwarz

Continuing on the FM theme we have a bank of sounds for one of the best modern interpretations of FM synthesis, KORG’s hugely successful opsix synth. Everyone (well, a lot of us) got very excited when KORG teased an upcoming FM synth at NAMM some years ago.

When the opsix dropped, we were somewhat disappointed with the diminutive 37 key version, but what made up for it was KORG’s excellent and intuitive programming interface that brought the key functionality up front and made it more understandable for the uninitiated.

Space Explorations, from OttO K. Schwarz, delivers 50 varied and interesting sounds that certainly derive their existence from the inspiration of space exploration. Perfect for film and TV composition, as well as more ambient productions, Space Explorations uses the opsix architecture to its fullest.
