Sonor Momentum: Maple, Birch, or Beech
With the Sonor Momentum series, the German drum manufacturer offers a modern take on drum kits. The new series comes in a variety of kit setups and three wood types: maple, birch, and beech. It does not stop there.

For each of the three wood types, there are also four different colors: Red Pearl (wrap), Satin Pure White (matte lacquer), GT Black (matte lacquer), and California Burl (semi-gloss veneer). Each shell features the popular 9-ply (6 mm) medium shell construction, recognizable to Sonor fans from the company’s most luxurious series, the SQ2 drum system.

In terms of sonic character, Sonor describes the three styles as follows: the beech shells offer the most balanced sound with “warm tone with evenly balanced lows, mids and highs”. Compared that, the birch shells have more of a “smiley curve” type of sound with pronounced highs and lows. The maple drums are full on bass monsters, offering “a mellow, warm and balanced full tone, [with] strong low frequencies.” If you’re a fan of mixing things up, you can even combine drum shells of all three wood types for an even more unique sound.
