Minimal Audio Evoke
Evoke is a versatile resynthesis tool for transforming your vocals with a wide scope of sonic possibilities. The workflow starts off by selecting the key and the pitch tracking range, then you can choose between four natural, eight synthetic, and four texture algorithms. In the main resynth section, you have a wide range of controls, including the voices and spectrum sections.
In the center, you’ll find familiar auto-tune parameters, and on either side, you can shape sounds tonally, adjust the formant settings, and individually adjust each of the four harmony voices. In the effects rack, you’ll find eight different processors, including chorus, compression, delay, distortion, EQ, filter, reverb, and shifter, which includes frequency shifting and ring mod effects.
The interface looks remarkably similar to Serum, so producers will immediately feel at home, and many of the processing sections and modules can be individually bypassed, so you can hear exactly how each part is affecting the sound. In your DAW, Evoke can be used on a Pitch Track or a MIDI Track, as well as a MIDI Instrument, or to process an external signal via the sidechain.
Overall, Evoke is a decidedly easy interface to get your head around, and working through and deconstructing the brilliantly designed presets will help you find and create the sounds that really suit the style of your production. What’s more, the sheer range of different algorithms and the myriad of ways you can shape and layer vocals make it worthwhile.
