Stam Audio 600 Series: A New Open-Source Modular Format
Stam Audio has launched a new format for modules from any manufacturer.
To address the limitations of 500 Series, the Stam Audio 600 Series is a new patent-pending format that allows high-voltage rails and more.
This week, the small but well-known manufacturer based in Chile, Stam Audio, has audaciously announced that it will be launching a new open-source format called 600 Series. That means other manufacturers will be able to develop their own modules for this new modular rack format.
Stam Audio 600 Series
Stam Audio is known for its extremely reliable and high-quality recreations of classic hardware, with its own versions of legendary gear like the 1176, the Pultec EQP-1A, the Neve 1073, the LA-2A, the Fairchild, and many more. The company was founded in 2014, and over the years received countless requests to create 500 series versions of these classic hardware clones.
Until now, the answer has always been no because of a lack of space. However, with this new 600 Series format that is 1U taller, there is a significant real-estate increase, providing space for high-voltage rails, original spec transformers, and AC heaters. This means it will be possible in the future for Stam Audio to produce module versions of its Sta-Level, 176, EPQ-1A, LA-2A, CL1B, V72, V76, Fairchild 670, 660, 33609, and any others that didn’t fit the spec of the 500 series format.

Naturally, this announcement has been met with considerable excitement, and not only by Stam Audio fans. There are many companies that, for years, have refused to compromise on the standard of signal processing quality afforded within 19-inch rack gear designs. Does this mean that prestigious manufacturers like Manley will create their own 600 Series racks and modules? We’ll have to wait and see.
Creating a new format for the pro audio industry has been a huge undertaking, and we couldn’t be happier to have done so. After taking old designs and bringing them back to life, it was time for us to create something original for future engineers.
