Analog Waves Vol.1 for ASM Hydrasynth by NadirSynth
When Ashun Sound Machines dropped the Hydrasynth, it took the synth world by storm. Not only was it an incredible sound engine, but it almost single-handedly brought polyphonic aftertouch back to the masses. So much so that today, if a synth doesn’t have poly AT, we’re actually somewhat disappointed!
That marriage of a superb sound engine and expressive keyboard control. along with a very intuitive UI made it an instant classic. But it wasn’t quite the first to bring expression back to keyboards. Companies like ROLI, with their unusual but hugely expressive Seaboard was making similar waves.
The fleshy, rubbery keys and the playing style required to use them wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It forced players to relearn their playing style and think about performance in a whole new way. But the sounds and expressivity were worth it.
And now, with this sound bank, we have a collection of sounds for the Hydrasynth expressly designed to be played via a ROLI Seaboard. What you actually get is 128 patches for the Hydrasynth and 128 patches for the Seaboard that are paired with their Hydrasynth counterparts.
Everything relies on MPE and, therefore, you can use these sounds with any MPE controller, such as a Haken Continuum, Expressive E Osmose and more, as well as all versions of the Hydrasynth itself. You can buy Analog Waves for ASM Hydrasynth here for just €19.99.
Custom Patches for Oberheim TEO-5 by Miles Away
Oberheim’s revival has been nothing short of hugely successful and incredibly welcome. Their last hardware offering was the TEO-5 which some wrote off as just a Sequential Take 5 with a different badge on. That was only partly the case.
Given that Sequential has been instrumental (pun intended) in helping get the Oberheim brand and sound back into our ears, it made sense for them to repurpose a form factor that had done so well for Dave Smith’s legendary company.
The TEO-5 has received plenty of plaudits and delivers that Oberheim sound in a package that is both compact physically and financially. And it’s that sound that Miles Away, aka Devin Belanger, has exploited for a custom bank for this instrument.
Devin has crafted a collection of sounds with something for everyone and every style. There’s everything from big, warm, Oberheim pads to effects, leads and basses and much more besides. Grab this set of TEO-5 patches direct from the Miles Away store here for $30.
Synergy for KORG multi/poly by Nick Klimenko/LFO.store
KORG’s latest offering in its Pi-based platform (I’m sure there’s a better name) was the multi/poly and, judging by everyone I’ve spoken to who has got one, it’s the best yet! Taking inspiration from KORG’s Mono/Poly, which presented a unique way of delivering multiple voices at once, the multi/poly takes that concept and flies with it.
Whichever form you get, be it the 37-key keyboard, desktop module or native plugin, there is no denying that the multi/poly is a real powerhouse of a synth and one of KORG’s finest offerings in recent years, and that’s not easy given that KORG have been knocking it out of the park of late.
Now, LFO.store, in partnership with Nick Klimenko, have released a new bank of multi/poly sounds that follows on from their previous bank, ‘Phantasm’. The focus of Synergy is big, cinematic sounds, sonic landscapes and lots of evolving motions sounds.
There’s a distinctively retro 80s feel to a lot of these patches, and that’s no bad thing in my book. i’ll eat that stuff up all day long. There are 40 performances and sequences delivered here, covering a healthy range of polyphonic vintage goodness. You can buy Synergy for just €15 here.
Superheroes – Speed & Strength by Boom Library
The last time we saw Boom Library featured in this column, it was with a very extensive library of thunder sounds. And now they’re back with something a bit more specific. Superheroes – Speed & Strength is all about those sound effects that accompany what seems to be that never-ending stream of movies about people in capes, helmets and tight-fitting suits.
Aimed fairly and squarely at the movie, TV and games industries, this library claims to have all you need to strengthen the impact and heighten the effect of your ‘man of steel’ or ‘powerful witch’! There’s plenty of impact sounds, swooshing sounds, impact sounds WITH swooshes and swooshes with impacts!
There’s something for every kind of super hero here. And if you are in the business of making someone who looks like they just landed on earth from the planet Krypton sound good, look no further. There are nearly 3000 sounds in the Construction Kit version, filling almost 7GB here. All presented in WAV format for universal use whatever platform you’re on.
