Amazing Pedals with Room for Improvement

More often than not that was the general sentiment expressed by many, whenever a new UAFX pedal came out. Forums and comment sections on social media where filled with amazement about the realistic sound of each one. In terms of sound, Lion, ANTI, Knuckles, and others were among the best amp emulations available on the market.

However, there were also recurring demands for missing features, which were suggested time and again. For example, many were concerned about the Bluetooth functionality of some of UAFX pedal. It was not always stable, and sometimes using the UAFX app was a test of patience due to the need for detailed settings.

Even more so, a more versatile MIDI connection for synchronizing with other pedals and switching between presets was sorely missed. With UAFX 2.0, Universal Audio proves that it paid close attention. Because many of these wishes are being fulfilled today!

What UAFX 2.0 Brings

And what’s included in this major update? With UAFX 2.0, all pedals receive greatly improved MIDI connectivity via their respective USB port.

If you now connect your UAFX pedal to a suitable USB MIDI interface (or your computer), you can synchronize it with other time-based pedals, such as delays and their tempo. You can also switch between 128 presets on the pedals via MIDI, and control individual parameters using an expression pedal. That makes these pedals so much more live-ready!

However, it is worth noting that BPM sync via MIDI remains reserved for the UAFX pedals Astra, Galaxy, Del-Verb, and Starlight in this update. Universal Audio says that they’ve also improved the Bluetooth connection between the pedal and a smartphone. What’s more, you can now connect the pedal to your smartphone through USB-C.

More Presets on the Amp Pedals!

But that’s not all with UAFX 2.0! In addition to improved Bluetooth connectivity and expanded MIDI capabilities, the UAFX amp pedals —namely Lion, Dream, Ruby, Woodrow, Anti, Enigmatic, and Knuckles —have received another upgrade. Four amp presets can now be stored and recalled directly on the pedal.

That’s another improvement for live performances. It allows you to set four user presets, for example clean, crunch, reverb-ed, and distortion. And with a single footswitch, you can switch easily to the next one. Neat!

It took them quite a long time… 😀

I wonder if all new pedals from UAFX will actually have a dedicated MIDI connector or if they will keep it as USB-MIDI only (plus maybe Bluetooth MIDI).

USB-MIDI is less convenient for a pedalboard than a traditional MIDI cable.

CME WIDI (cool gear with wireless MIDI via Bluetooth), works like a charm, but I’m not sure how well the Bluetooth MIDI on UAFX pedals works.
