Source Audio Encounter: Weird Delays and Alien Reverbs

While a gentle plate reverb or beautiful tape delay may be found elsewhere, the Source Audio Encounter is in a class of its own. This one will appeal to fans of the Collider and Nemesis, but it has its own thing going on, which makes it stand out on its own.

Featuring twelve algorithms, six for delay and six for reverb, none of the effects sound like traditional delays or reverbs.

Instead, the pedal is designed to create unique, otherworldly, ambient, and interwoven soundscapes.

The Source Audio Encounter features a diverse range of algorithms that go far beyond standard delay and reverb effects.

For delays, you have access to Noise Tape, Resonant, Drum Echo, Echoverb, Kaleidoscope, and Helix. The reverb modes are equally unique, with Hypersphere, Shimmers, TremVerb, Reverse, Lo-Fi, and Swell.

You can even use two effects at the same time, which offers a lot of weird and wonderful combinations to get creative with.

Stereo Fun

Not only does the Source Audio Encounter offer a complete stereo signal path, but it also provides flexible routing options for its two simultaneous effects. You can route the reverb and delay effects in parallel, in series (one after the other), or even send them to separate outputs. Controls

You have six controls to shape your sound: Delay, Feedback, Tone, and Mix, along with two additional parameters, Control 1 and Control 2. The function of these last two knobs changes depending on the effect you’ve selected with the central rotary wheel, giving you deep control over each unique algorithm.

Presets

A small 3-way switch lets you easily toggle between the delay and reverb settings. Each effect also has its own dedicated footswitch, making it simple to activate or bypass them independently. When you find the perfect sound, you can save up to eight presets for quick recall.

Neuro app

To unlock its full potential, connect the pedal to your computer or smartphone via the mini-USB port and use the Neuro app. This gives you access to deeper settings for each algorithm and allows you to download presets from other users.

The Encounter can also be synchronised with other pedals via MIDI, which unlocks the ability to switch between a massive 128 presets.

I was really expecting them to update this platform like they did with the Artifact, but it’s the same old one as with the Nemesis, Ventris, and Collider, still using USB-mini!

It makes me wonder how long they have had this sitting on the shelf. Cool sounds, though.
