Sounds and Presets – FM Depths and Space Explorations
We’ve got some delights for you this week for FM synths, both new and old, plus a big pack for the wavestate and more!
Sounds and Presets
FM Depths for Yamaha DX7 by Nick Klimenko
It speaks volumes for the impact of a synthesizer when people are still making presets for it over 40 years after it launched. It also helps when that synth has been cloned as much as the DX7, prolonging the experience long after the last DX7 rolled off the factory floor in Hamamatsu.
In the age-old tradition of building a bank of 32 presets for the DX7, Nick Klimenko has created a bank of ambient and analog like tones that can be used on the original DX7 and its many iterations and impersonators. These sounds will work on the Mk.I and II DX7, the TX7, the TX816 and TX802 as well as things like the KORG Volca FM, DEXED and Arturia’s DX7 V amongst others.

Containing drones, strings, pads, plucks, bells and moving sequences, these are more than just your typical FM tones and are a welcome addition to what is already an over-populated market. These sounds exude warmth, something not always associated with FM synthesis.
You can buy FM Depths for just €15 from the LFO.store now!
Space Explorations for KORG opsix by OttO K. Schwarz
Continuing on the FM theme we have a bank of sounds for one of the best modern interpretations of FM synthesis, KORG’s hugely successful opsix synth. Everyone (well, a lot of us) got very excited when KORG teased an upcoming FM synth at NAMM some years ago.
When the opsix dropped, we were somewhat disappointed with the diminutive 37 key version, but what made up for it was KORG’s excellent and intuitive programming interface that brought the key functionality up front and made it more understandable for the uninitiated.
Space Explorations, from OttO K. Schwarz, delivers 50 varied and interesting sounds that certainly derive their existence from the inspiration of space exploration. Perfect for film and TV composition, as well as more ambient productions, Space Explorations uses the opsix architecture to its fullest.

They make use of the extensive FX section and are fully compatible with all variants of the opsix, including the regular 37-key version, the SE, desktop module and native plugin. You can grab these now from the LFO.store for just €18!
Ocean State for KORG wavestate by Ocean Swift
From the opsix, we come to the wavestate, it’s Wavestation-inspired sibling that is probably the most successful and most loved of their Raspberry Pi-based synths that also includes the modwave and multi/poly.
But this is no ordinary sound library. This is a massive vault containing over 1900 samples, all perfectly looped and crafted and assembled into over 1600 Programs, Performances, Wave Sequences, Lanes and Effects presets.
The sounds cover every possible style and genre and could very well be considered a one-stop shop for wavestate sounds. Of course, compatibility is assured across all versions of the wavestate, both hardware and software, and if you’re using the plugin version, there’s full NKS compatibility when used in NKS hardware.

Ocean State uses every inch of your wavestate to deliver a rich and broad palette sounds. Better still, you can use any piece of Ocean State to create your own sounds and patches within the wavestates architecture.
Ocean State will set you back €85 which is a bargain for a sound set so huge and so comprehensive!
Granite Pulse for KORG microKORG 2 by skendi
And finally, continuing the KORG theme, we have 64 presets for the sequel to the biggest-selling synth of all time to date, KORG’s microKORG 2. Rather than covering a range of patch styles, Granite Pulse is 100% arpeggios, through and through.
The objective of this bank was to create noisy but atmospheric sounds based on geology. Its author drew inspiration from artists like A.G. Cook, SOPHIE, Flume and Bassvictim. Useable across many styles and genres, expect lo-fi, punchy and dirty sounds.

Granite Pulse mixes up the microKORG 2’s oscillators and FX to come up with this impressive range of arps that will provide both inspiration and embellishment in equal measure. You can pick it up for $24.95 from the Anton Anru store.
