Lunacy is an innovative software developer based in California, founded by a team of musicians and producers who build intuitive instruments and effects for any type of music production or sound design application.
Lunacy Taps and Portals
Starting with Taps, which also functions as a standalone plugin within your DAW, this creative delay processor is capable of building rhythms, soundscapes, and anything in between. The interface is divided into three main sections that let you adjust the timing in sync’d or manual modes with up to eight delay taps. What’s more, the useful divide/multiply function lets you quickly experiment with different approaches.
The main control section has two tabs, including the Spacing tab with Fade, PingPong, Skew, Cluster, Swing, and Stereo controls for adjusting the behaviour of the taps. Meanwhile, the Pitch tab gives you access to five different modes to build complex melodic patterns with distinctive timbres. Also, the Tape section lets you dial in the analogue goodness from classic echo effects.
Included with the plugin, there are 50 presets in the Taps library, with a selection designed by Benn Jordan. In addition, Portals provides a feedback system for the BEAM effects environment. The visual drag-and-drop interface lets you create customized effects chains, as Portals becomes a feedback tool for generating unique feedback loops.
You can even add a portal within a portal for Inception-style feedback creation, and the three simple controls to adjust the feedback amount and timing. Overall, Taps and Portals are inspiring creative effects, particularly within the context of the BEAM effects platform.
