Gibson Gary Clark Jr. ES-355
Gary Clarke Jr’s new Gibson ES-355 comes in a stunning VOS Cobra Burst finish over a three-ply maple/poplar/maple body with a sweet-looking figured maple top. He has had signature models before, the Gibson and Epiphone signature models, an SG and Casino, but this latest ES-355 is head and shoulders above both those models in terms of style and looks.
Neck Profile
Crafted for comfort and class, the mahogany neck features a ’50s Rounded Medium C profile and a bound ebony fretboard.
The board is set with 22 Historic medium jumbo frets and elegant mother-of-pearl block inlays. Both the body and headstock feature multi-ply binding, with the latter showcasing the iconic Custom split diamond inlay. A set of Grover Rotomatic Kidney button tuners ensures rock-solid tuning stability.
Custombucker
This signature model comes equipped with a pair of unpotted Custombucker humbuckers with Alnico 3 magnets. Under the hood, this wiring setup includes paper-in-oil capacitors and CTS audio taper pots. The signal path is rounded out by a rugged Switchcraft toggle switch and jack.
Visually, it retains a classic look with silver-reflector Top Hat knobs and dial pointers, while the black chicken head knob gives you command over a mono Varitone circuit—perfect for dialing in everything from bite to warmth.
This model features VOS nickel hardware, including a period-correct ABR-1 Historic no-wire bridge. A Bigsby B7 Vibrato offers subtle shimmers for expressiveness, while the custom Gibson hardshell case sports a brown exterior and Gary Clark Jr. graphics.
With only 100 instruments handcrafted by the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, these will sell out.
Price & Availability
It’s a great specification all round, but they aren’t cheap at £6999/€7999 each, and as they are a limited run of only 100, I suspect collectors will be after these models. I’m liking the Cobra Burst finish, it looks bling and classy all at the same time.
They are available at Thomann to order now. Again, this is a limited-edition model, so there won’t be many available. If you want one, don’t hesitate.
