This week sees FM Core for Multiphonics CV-3, plus a free bank for Audiomodern’s Soundbox, plus the sounds of Armageddon!
Sounds and Presets
FM Core for AAS Multiphonics CV-3 by Adam Pietruszko
Who had FM making a solid comeback in the last 5 years on their scorecard, eh? The world and its life partner seem to be coming up with their own twist on what was a much-maligned synthesis technique for quite some time.
It seems that nothing is safe from having some FM implemented in it, and now the world of virtual modular is getting a dose in the form of FM Core, available for Applied Acoustic Solutions’ Multiphonics CV-3, complete with patch cables and all!
FM Core isn’t a new module, however. Adam Pietruszko has crafted 100 presets for Multiphonics CV-3 using its existing modules, including, but not limited to, its FM+ update modules. These include FM Core Operator, Rez Oscillator, 8-Segment Envelope and Spectrum Analyzer.

Within FM Core is a wide range of sounds covering many of the expected FM fare, but also stuff that goes way beyond the typical sounds and with it all being hosted within a virtual modular environment, these sounds can be brilliant starting points for your own creations.
FM Core is currently available for $19, down from $39 for a limited time. It is also compatible with the free AAS Player.
Starlit for Audiomodern Soundbox by Audiomodern
Not a week seemingly goes by without my mentioning another library for Audiomodern’s excellent Soundbox, and this week is no exception. However, this week’s offering, like the playback software, is completely free!
Starlit contains 37 presets that lend themselves to the synth pop and “indietronica” (their word, not mine!), but don’t let that put you off! In fact, there are some very cool and inspiring sounds in here that can be used in all sorts of compositions.
All the presets are customisable, allowing you to utilise Soundbox’s many sound-tweaking features, and at 724MB in size, they haven’t skimped on the quality here. Better still, this bank will work on both the desktop version of Soundbox, as well as the iPad edition!

You really can’t sniff at a free sound library and when it’s this good, you really ought not miss out on it. You can download Starlit directly from Audiomodern’s website here.
Multiverses for Xils Lab SYN’X by Cipryan Bot
Given the mystique and popularity of the Elka Synthex, it seems strange that there aren’t too many recreations of it in plugin form, the two foremost being Arturia’s SynthX V and Xils-Lab’s SYN’X 2, the latter of which is somewhat more than just a Synthex clone!
Whilst there’s no denying that the Synthex is the core inspiration behind SYN’X2, it boasts way more functionality, delivering a powerful synth with huge potential and a sound to match. 16 oscillators, 8 filters, 32 DADSR envelopes and a mod matrix with 132 potential destinations!

Multiverses is a new pack from Romanian sound designer Cipryan Bot that delivers 110 new patches for the SYN’X2 that give it a proper workout. There are plenty of sound types available that exploit the depth and features of SYN’X2, and a brief listen to the demo on their website makes this abundantly apparent.
SYN’X2 is an oft-overlooked synth plugin that deserves far more recognition than it gets, so why not take advantage of the sale they have on right now that allows you to pick it up for just €59, down from €199!), and you can grab this sound pack for €16.90, before it goes back up to €29.90.
Armageddon by Boom Library
We humans are obsessed with our imminent demise, and this is borne out in the countless explorations of the end of the world in film and TV. Whether it’s earthquakes, fire, tornadoes, tsunamis, climate change, errant comets or giant lizards from another planet, we are forever exploring our own death and destruction.
So, I guess, there is a demand for a soundtrack to the end of the world as we know it, beyond R.E.M.’s classic track. Well, the team at Boom Library, a sound design house that we have featured here before, have done the hard work and heavy lifting and captured how armageddon would sound, without having to destroy the world in the process.
Whether it’s an exploding volcano, violent storms, giant ice flows crashing into icebergs or waves the height of the Empire State Building, they have used their extensive sound design nous to create a huge library of destructive and fatal sounds.
There are over 3,000 sounds, all recorded at 96/24, taking up nearly 15GB of space and all royalty free, organised and tagged for ease of use and discovery. There’s also a Construction Kit available, which allows you to build your devastation by layering and combining sounds to support the sound of long-form scenes.

Supplied as WAV files, these sounds can be used with any sample-playback device or plugin, DAW or video-editing application. The bundle of both the construction kit and the library will currently set you back £168.20 (reduced from £209.00), with the separate library and construction kit available for £87.20 and £132.00 respectively.
Electronica for KORG wavestate by OttO K.Schwarz
More sounds for KORG’s excellent wavestate bring this week’s Sounds and Presets to a close, with another excellent library from OttO K. Schwarz. ‘Electronica’ contains 40 performances that pay tribute to the pioneering spirit of electronic music.
Inspired by the likes of the Berlin School movement and Jean Michel Jarre, this pack sets out to capture the sound of an era where we first started to hear sequenced sounds and the freedom they provided to the composers of the era.

So if Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Tomita, and Jarre float your boat, this pack will fill your wavestate with an abundance of inspirational patches for you to get lost in. Grab it now for a mere €20!
