SampleScience have managed to extract 30 or possibly 32 drum kits (it says both numbers on the website) from the Nintendo NES sound chip. All realised in glorious 8 bit they have taken sounds directly from games and also from analogue drum machines. Famidrums can be described as being a bit crunchy.

Putting to one side that the name sounds like some kind of percussive feminine hygiene product, it is a fabulous collection of classic video gaming sounds. I’m sure it will delight the chiptune crowd and help them get their groove on.

The promotional video is quite sort of inept but very in-keeping with the slightly crappy and retro nature of the beat.

It’s a VST/AU plugin for Windows and MacOS and includes 240 samples that you can use however you like. Special price of $9.99 for one week only then it rockets back up to an eye watering $14.99. More information on the SampleScience website.
