Check out the six Doepfer new Superbooth modules, including an analog sequencer and Buchla-style A-149-3 Fluctuating Random Voltages.

Doepfer New Superbooth Modules

Superbooth25 is almost upon us. What are you most excited to see? As it does every year, Doepfer will be debuting some new Eurorack modules at the Berlin synthesizer festival, and 2025 is no exception, with six new products on display.

They are:

  • A-155-2 Miniature Racheting Analog Sequencer
  • A-149-3 Fluctuating Random Voltages
  • A-119-2 Dual Input/Amplifier
  • A-145-2 Slim LFO
  • A-188-9 High Speed VCO
  • A-198-2 Ribbon Controller II

Doepfer New Superbooth Modules: A-155-2 Sequencer

First off, Doepfer will be showing off its A-155-2 Miniature Racheting Analog Sequencer. A compact sequencer, it will feature eight steps, with each step having adjustable control voltage plus an illuminated momentary switch in the form of a button. The buttons function as on/off switches while the sequencer is running and can also be used to program the various functions. As the name of the module suggests, there are also ratchets, with x2, x3 and x4 modes.

A-155-2 offers eight different direction modes, including up, down, 2 x up, 2 x down, three pendulum modes and a random. Interestingly, the module also features eight presets

Connects include CV, gate, clock and reset, with an internal pin header available that outputs the data via MIDI. You can use it to control a MIDI-to-CV interface if quantized control voltages are required, such as the planned Micro-CV-Interface A-190-9.

Doepfer is shooting for a summer 2025 release and will price the A-155-2 at €180 for the standard version and €200 for the vintage.

Doepfer New Superbooth Modules: A-149-3 Fluctuating Random Voltages

The A-149-3 Fluctuating Random Voltages module is based on the Buchla module of the same name, but makes a number of fixed parameters from the original adjustable. It gives you access to virtually all internal signals, for example, Noisy Triangle or S&H, and lets you adjust parameters such as the frequency and noisiness of the internal triangle oscillator, the correlation of the S&H, and manual or automatic frequency control of the S&H clock oscillator.

The A-149-3 should ship in May with a price tag of €265.

Doepfer New Superbooth Modules: And the Rest

Continuing on, the A-119-2 Dual Input/Amplifier is like a dual version of the A-119 module, minus the envelope follower, with instead two amplifiers with separately adjustable amplification levels. Usefully, the module will take stereo signals. Out in April for €65.

Need a new LFO but don’t have much available HP? Check out the A-145-2 Slim LFO. It has the same controls and sockets as the A-145-1 but with a smaller panel. Look for it in April for €110.

Moving on, the A-188-9 High Speed VCO is, as the name suggests, an ultra-fast oscillator (15kHz to 500kHz) intended for use with BBD modules (such as the A-188-1/2) to create Karplus-Strong string synthesis. You can also use it as a regular oscillator with sawtooth, triangle and rectangle with adjustable pulse width waveforms. €150 and is already available.

Lastly, there’s the A-198-2 Ribbon Controller II, an updated version of the A-198-1, and is meant to be paired with Doepfer’s ribbon controller, the Trautonium Manual. It features a number of improvements over the original A-198, including nine user-programmable quantizations displayed as a one-octave keyboard on the face of the module, switching between quantized/non-quantized modes on the module itself or via an external control voltage input, retrigger on/off switching on the module or via external CV, an optional MIDI output, and more. This should be available in summer 2025 at €380 for the module and manual, €190 for just the module, or €205 for just the manual.
