The Chandler Limited REDD.47 Special Edition takes this classic microphone preamp to a new level with specially sourced vintage components.
Chandler Limited is a household name in recording, mixing, and mastering, immortalizing classic designs and making them viable in modern workflows. Within the prestigious Chandler product line, you’ll find reissues of many of the famous EMI studio pieces used in Abbey Road Studios on some of our favourite recordings.
Chandler Limited REDD.47 Special Edition
Expanding on Wade Goeke’s original design, the REDD.47 Special Edition aims to reproduce the legendary sound of the original REDD.47 preamp without compromise. To do this, Chandler Limited has selected and sourced 53 vintage components built in the 1960s and 1970s, and thrown in a few new features for good measure.
Among the parts sourced, there is a range of NOS (New Old Stock) components and a range of vintage parts manufactured by Piher (found in old EMI, Neve, and Marshall gear), as well as items from Siemens, ERO/Roederstein, Wima, Beyschlag, ISKRA, and the renowned Mullard “Tropical Fish” capacitors, with EF86 and E88CC tubes.
This Limited version also has some features added from the legendary REDD.51 console, such as an input sensitivity control, an optional line input circuit, and a bass lift function. The REDD.47 Special Edition also features up to 52 dB of step-down gain (57 dB total, a polarity reversal switch, and phantom power for condensers and DI boxes.
Meanwhile, there is the standard XLR I/O on the rear panel, and an instrument input on the front. Here, the EMI cassette aesthetic steals the show, with its matte silver control panel and backlit EMI logo that gives this version of the REDD.47 Special Edition its “Extra Special” look to match its hefty price tag.
