[1 May 2025] A new limited chrome edition of the Body Synths Metal Fetishist percussion synth is on the way. Find out how to get one.

Body Synths Metal Fetishist Chrome Edition

One of my favorite instruments at last year’s Superbooth was the Body Synths Metal Fetishist, a techno-heavy digital percussion synth that got the EBM fan in me all hot and bothered. The original was all-black and looked pretty sweet – but wouldn’t chrome be even better?

The nice people at Body Synths must have had the same thought because here’s the Metal Fetishist Chrome Edition. Limited to just 200 units, it’s the same instrument as the black original, just now even moar metal.

“We’ve been keeping this a secret since almost the beginning and trust me it wasn’t easy, this thing looks cool af,” they said in the description to the YouTube video.

The first batch of 100 starts shipping to dealers “in a few weeks.” There’s no price information available yet. Head to the company website to find out more. Or see them at Superbooth25 next week.

Body Synths Metal Fetishist Digital Percussion Synth: Wake up the gimp

[10 May 2024] EBM and heavy techno fans, take note. The noisetastic Body Synths Metal Fetishist percussion synth makes the DFAM its sub.

Love heavy electronic music like EBM? Feel right at home in the basement of Berghain? Always need moar noise? If this sounds like you, then let me introduce you to Metal Fetishist, a new digital percussion synth from Body Synths debuting at Superbooth24.

The name says it all, really. Metal Fetishist is a heavy, noisy percussion synthesizer that would sound right at home in tracks by artists like Blush Response, Skinny Puppy or Einsturzende Neubauten.

Noise-Focused

The first release from Body Synths, Metal Fetishist (God, I love that name) is “unapologetically digital,” according to the press release. However, with its one-knob-per-function layout, it will appeal to those who like to get (ahem) hands-on with their instruments.

The architecture is simple: it has a single oscillator, white noise generator and multimode filter. Don’t let this fool you, though, as there’s aggression to be found in the modulation and distortion sections.

Modulation and Noise in the Metal Fetishist

Two randomness generators control the trigger probability and step modulation of the pitch, cutoff or an internal mixer that lets through noise or external audio. These random values can be locked into steps of 2, 4, 8, 10, 16 or 32.

On the distortion side, Metal Fetishist features a digital overdrive and a downsampler, which let “the instrument go from standard monophonic synth sounds to different sonic areas like the harsh, the fuzzy and even the digital aliasing glitches,” says Body Synths.

It’s not a drum machine so you’ll need to sync it to an external Eurorack or CV-equipped sequencer via the patchbay. You can also sync to MIDI clock. There’s an onboard clock divider as well as a manual trigger button.

Price and Availability for Metal Fetishist

I love the sound of the Metal Fetishist in the demo video (below). It’s like the Moog DFAM but much, much harsher. Clearly, this will not appeal to everyone but fans of harsher music should take to it like PVC on actors in a Wachowski movie.

Body Synths Metal Fetishist will sell for €360 (excluding VAT) and will be available in early June 2024

Hm, after second, third listening to the videos i am not really convinced. The sound is easy monotonic, the complexity of the sample-hold rolling patterns seems to pall on soon. I mean for the price i can use for ex. old Monotribe and some cheap stuff from Behr. to reach for these sounds and still easy operating. When you consider there is probably no sampler or better recorder of the phrases? so you have one phrase going and that´s it? From my view really soon depleted little box for 429-439 EUR!?
But on the other side with some nice expansion connection there can be some fun for a while. Understand we´re in this age of “i´m really not doing it cheap project, because the times are not cheap at all, so whtth-fg do you want stop bchinn and buy the products as Nike commandos!” 🙂 With such as SomaSum lab swindlers ,Teenage elite snobs and such in mind..still better
