Serato DJ 5.0
It’s been almost a year since Serato graced us with 4.0. If you’ve been thinking it’s about time for an update to DJ Pro and DJ Lite, you’re in luck, as the company today announced Serato DJ 5.0. The new update brings some pretty slick features and improvements to the DJ software. And best of all, it’s now available in public beta.
Lucid Beatgrids
If you’re a DJ who only plays electronic music, this may not get you too excited. But for those of us who spin tracks with fluctuating BPMs – that is, tracks played by actual drummers – you’re going to love this.

Serato DJ 5.0 brings a new feature called Lucid Beatgrids to the platform. Serato is calling it their “most accurate and intuitive beatgrid technology to date.” So what does it do? The “completely rebuilt analysis engine” automatically detects fluctuating BPMs during track analysis. This reduces time spent on manual editing and also allows you to play loose-BPM tracks with, as Serato claims, confidence.
You can also customize beatgrids, with two modes, the new Flexible and an improved Fixed, on hand, plus enhanced beatgrid editing controls and waveform BPM labels so you can see what’s happening with the tempo right from the waveform.
Open Streaming
Serato DJ 5.0 also brings with it a whole host of new streaming functionality. First of all, there’s open streaming. This lets you log into multiple streaming services at the same time. You can then mix tracks from competing providers together along with those in your library. No more switching accounts. Whoah.

Streamers now appear as individual crates. There’s also a new provider search dropdown so you can switch between services while perusing your library.
Additionally, you can now see BPM and key data for streaming tracks before analysis.
Cue Loops
Also new to Serato DJ 5.0 are Cue Loops. Cue Loops let you save loops as Hot Cues, allowing the playhead to jump to the cue point and start the loop automatically. Note that this is available only in DJ Pro and not the Lite version.
