AKAI MPC One G2 and MPC Key 37 G2: A Big Power Boost for the Entry-Level MPCs
New Processor, more Memory, USB-C, and new Colors!
The AKAI MPC One G2 and MPC Key 37 G2 arrive with a big power and memory boost over their predecessors. Should you sell your MPC Live III? Not quite!
AKAI MPC One G2
The AKAI MPC One G2 is the latest generation of AKAI’s smallest standalone production workstation (if you don’t count the MPC Sample). Now dressed in striking blue colors, the successor to the MPC One+ looks very similar to the previous model at first glance. The 7″ multi-touch screen, encoders, pads and buttons are all the same. This also means that the One unfortunately doesn’t get the expressive three-dimensional MPCe pads; those remain exclusive to the MPC Live III and MPC XL.

Under the hood, however, the MPC One G2 has received a serious power boost. The new version not only comes with an upgraded 8-core processor; it also features 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. That’s twice as much RAM and four times the storage of the predecessor. According to AKAI Professional, this not only dramatically improves load times, but also gives the machine enough power to run up to 32 simultaneous plugin instruments and up to 16 stereo audio tracks. The G2 also runs MPC3 OS with all the bells and whistles, including a linear arranger and seamless Ableton Live import and export. An optional Pro Pack gets you professional-grade stem separation, real-time time-stretching, and a Clip Matrix.
The USB connectivity has also been updated. The USB-B connector of the previous model has been replaced with a USB-C port that supports 24×24-channel audio streaming, expanded MIDI, host, and device support over a single cable. You can also sample directly from your phone or tablet via USB-C.
AKAI MPC Key 37 G2
Fancy some black and white keys? The new MPC Key 37 G2 gets the same power upgrade, now offering a new 8-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage, as well as a USB-C port.
Unlike the MPC One G2, however, the MPC Key 37 G2 is inspired by the ‘iconic cream colorway’ (AKAI) of the late ‘80s, bringing the classic color to the keyboard MPC for the first time.
Both new MPCs come loaded with over 20 GB of content. However, it’s not the same on both machines: while the MPC One G2 comes with 11 plugins and 9 expansions, the MPC Key 37 G2 features 13 plugins and 6 expansions. You can find the list of included content on the manufacturer’s website.
Price and Availability
Both the MPC One G2 and the MPC Key 37 G2 are ready for pre-order from Thomann* now. The blue keyless version is €829, while the keyboard version costs €979.
