Liquid Sky d-vices make weird things. They also occasionally collaborate with other developers, as on the Zen Delay with Erica Synths and Ninja Tune. The latest Dada-infused devilry from Liquid Sky d-vices has just been announced, and it looks like a doozy.
Called SMUDGETIZER PRO, it’s a bitcrushing hardware tabletop effects unit in the Zen Delay format, and it sounds the business.
2 Bits of Experimentation
The new effects unit is a stereo 2-bit bitcrusher with modulation. It splits the signal into left and right halves, each with a set of duplicated controls. You get knobs to affect the waveform, sample rate, and amp. You can operate the controls for each channel separately, or link them for coordinated stereo tweaking.
Liquid Sky d-vices says that the SMUDGETIZER PRO was “engineered for maximum audio wreckage” and that it’s ready to bend, fkk up, break, and reassemble your sound into something floor-shakingly new and evil.”
Now that’s how you sell a bitcrusher.
Developed by Thilo Goldschmitz, who also worked on the PPG W2.2X4 Eurorack module, the unit was designed for “guitars, bass, drums and drum machines, synths, voices, world receivers and of course… noise,” says Liquid Sky.
The device is ready to pair with your Eurorack system or other gear, with TRS MIDI in/out plus CV and gate inputs and outputs as well.
Pricing and Availability
The SMUDGETIZER is available to preorder now on the Liquid Sky d-vices site for €299 (not including VAT or shipping). They expect to start shipping in August of this year (“or maybe earlier”). There is also a 40HP Eurorack module version coming later this year.
