How does the Bad Cat Pure Path work?

The Bad Cat PurePath could be the long-awaited link for analog enthusiasts who also want the convenience of a convincing cab simulation.

Engineered by industry icon Bruce Egnater, the Bad Cat Purepath introduces a groundbreaking reactive load. This system is designed to physically replicate the dynamic movement and complex behavior of a live guitar speaker.

So how does the device work? The PurePath is a fully analog, amplifier-driven speaker simulator equipped with a mechanical reactive load. What does that mean for you? You get an authentic amplifier feel without having to mess around with DSP, menus, or power cables.

For guitarists striving for the most realistic direct sound possible, the PurePath appears to be a good solution. Especially if you need to work with vintage and modern amplifiers with different output load requirements.

Passive Analog Design

Thanks to its DSP-free design, your sound remains pristine throughout the entire signal path
from amplifier to output. This means you can enjoy the full, rich sound of your favorite amplifiers without any digital signal conversion affecting your tones. Absolutely latency-free.

Another advantage of the PurePath is its ease of use. You don’t need an external power supply (traditional load boxes don’t typically require power, as they dissipate energy as heat). The PurePath reacts just like a real speaker. The full dynamics and interactions between the amp and the speaker are preserved.

No frills, just results and silent mode

Many of you will breathe a sigh of relief at this point. The Bad Cat PurePath doesn’t have any complicated menus or presets, just simple switches for instant results. Small toggle switches let you choose between Speaker: Ceramic / Alnico, Cab: Open / Closed, and Mic: Edge / Center. Presence, Phase, and Ground Lift can also be activated.

Furthermore, you can activate silent mode and use your amplifier without a connected speaker. This is ideal for recording, practicing at home, or live music at any volume.

A great tool to have in the studio, home, or on stage. The fact that it was a NAMM “Best in Show” 2026 winner, also suggests ot should be a great addition to your rig.
