Ring Stinger: Behringer Lovetone Clone Number 2
Clone of the classic '90s ring modulator and octave fuzz
Behringer has announced the Ring Stinger, their second Lovetone clone. This one is based on Lovetone’s bright pink ring modulator and octave fuzz pedal.
Ring Stinger
The Behringer Ring Stinger is their take on the classic, long-discontinued Lovetone Ring Stinger ring modulator and octave fuzz pedal.
Metal Enclosure
It comes in the same format as their recent clone, the Meatball envelope filter, and so expect a metal case (they are heavy, I purchased one to try it out) with a graphic and layout almost exactly the same as the original pedal they are copying.
’90s Boutique Madness Recreated
This pedal is a copy of the legendary ’90s boutique oddity, so expect some weirdness. The Behringer Ring Stinger gives you access to metallic ring modulation with gritty, harmonic-rich fuzz. This pedal is designed for total tonal destruction, featuring a footswitchable LFO and an onboard VCO that allows you to sculpt rhythmic pulses and unhinged pitch shifts.
Controls
With dedicated controls for Rate, Depth, and Waveform, along with a Timbre knob and a Drive circuit for harmonic generation, you can transform any instrument from guitars and synths to electric violins into an evolving landscape of audio chaos.
It also has a footswitchable Octave effect and a Blend knob for precise wet/dry balancing.
For those who want to play in real-time, the Ring Stinger includes expression pedal inputs for LFO Depth and VCO Frequency, plus the ability to feed in an external carrier signal for custom modulation.
Low Price Chaos?
Despite its capacity for absolute mayhem, the pedal features true bypass switching to keep your clean tone pristine when the madness is disengaged. Wrapped in a striking, bright-pink retro aesthetic, it offers a massive multiverse of experimental textures at a very accessible price point, much like the Meatball recreation.
It is a complex pedal, designed for experimentation, and so hard to describe in just words. I would suggest watching the official demo video and checking online information about the original Lovetone pedal if you aren’t sure what to expect.
Price & Availability
These are currently available for preorder, with a few-month wait. If you want a budget Lovetone clone, then you may want to get on that list now.
Priced at €98/£84 from Thomann, the Behringer Ring Stinger is very affordable.
