The collaboration between Ibanez and Korn produced two new 7-string guitars: the K7YIN and the K7YANG. Both guitars are based on the band’s sound and playing style, but each has its own unique characteristics. While the K7YIN has a dark, minimalist appearance, the K7YANG offers a brighter look and a different technical orientation. Yin and yang in perfection?

Construction and Features of the K7YIN

The K7YIN has a nyatoh body combined with a maple and walnut neck. Its ebony fingerboard has 24 frets for precise playing. The Wizard II-7 neck profile is one of the flatter variants, facilitating fast passages and deep riffs. Two DiMarzio Blaze pickups provide a versatile tone suitable for both distorted and clear sounds. The guitar is complemented by a Lo-Pro Edge vibrato system and sturdy Gotoh tuners. Its black finish gives it a simple yet striking appearance.

Differences in the K7YANG – Korn Sound in Two Variants

In contrast, the K7YANG has a maple top, which slightly affects the sound. Instead of ebony, rosewood is used for the fretboard, resulting in a warmer response. The bridge is also significantly different. Instead of a vibrato, it has a fixed EverTune bridge, which is designed primarily for maximum tuning stability. The light finish combines natural wood with white, clearly distinguishing it from the K7YIN.

Despite these differences, both models share important features. The maple and walnut neck construction and DiMarzio Blaze pickups provide a reliable tonal foundation in both guitars. Thus, the “Yin and Yang” concept is reflected not only in the colors but also in the different design focuses. One model prioritizes flexibility with a vibrato system, while the other prioritizes stability and consistent tuning.

The new models from Ibanez and Korn showcase two variations of a similar basic concept. The K7YIN is aimed at players who prefer a dark look with a vibrato system, while the K7YANG focuses on stable tuning and a contrasting appearance.
