Bjooks Patch and Tweak Ebook Site

If you’re a music gear fan (and there’s a good bet that you are considering that you’re reading a site called Gearnews.com), you’re likely familiar with Bjooks. The independent publisher has released a number of beautiful hardcover coffee table books about all manner of music production, including modular synthesis, guitar pedals, and – most recently – the lasting legacy of the Moog Minimoog. They’re real labors of love, but they’re also necessarily pricey. If this has been a barrier to you enjoying them, that’s all about to change.

Bjooks publisher Kim Bjørn this week announced Patch and Tweak.com, a new online digital repository for the book company. It puts all of the company’s books into e-book format and gives you access to them for a monthly subscription fee.

Bjooks Patch and Tweak: The Books

Currently, there are seven Bjooks titles available to read on the site. These are: Push Turn Move, Pedal Crush, Patch & Tweak, Patch & Tweak with Moog, Patch & Tweak with Korg, Synth Gems 1 and Inspire the Music. Additionally, anyone can read Push Turn Move now for free without registering.

You’ll notice that The Minimoog Book, the company’s latest, is not part of this list. Hopefully, this will join the e-book roster soon. Note that you have to read the books on the site and you cannot download them due to piracy concerns.

Bjooks Patch and Tweak: The Articles

Along with the core books, Patch and Tweak.com will also offer additional weekly content, in the form of articles, interviews, podcast episodes, bonus book content, short documentaries, as well as patch-focused items like tips, tutorials and video walkthroughs.

Bjooks Patch and Tweak: Pricing

While this may be a surprising move for a publisher known for its large-format hardcover books, having a digital option does make them more accessible. It will also allow Bjooks to update information without having to do represses, which can be very expensive.

Bjooks Patch and Tweak is a subscription-based site with two price tiers, Core and Pro. Core is €7.99/month and grants you access to the seven e-book titles. For €9.99/month, you get the e-books plus the additional material. Each tier has its own free trial period. See the site for more information.

The hardcover books remain available from Thomann*.

Who the hell wants to subscribe to a book? This subscription based economy is getting out of hand. Makes me not want to read these books

I have the Korg and Moog books in hard cover. Beware the Moog book has explicit language. Got it second, and that is the sole reason I won’t get any more of them.
Never would even consider getting them via subscription, that is ridiculous!
