Behringer The Flange With No Name: Go Beyond Flanging!
More Than a Flanger?
Behringer is on a roll this week, with their third pedal release in one week. The Flange With No Name is their take on the classic Lovetone modulation pedal, and it goes far beyond flanging!
All About Behringer The Flange With No Name
The Flange With No Name
This week, Behringer has announced The Flange With No Name, which follows the BM17 Frequency Box (Moogerfooger clone) and another Lovetone clone, the Ring Stinger. Uli’s team has been busy cloning boutique 1990s effects pedals.
Another analog circuit, with plenty of options for CV (control voltage) and a built-in effects loop, this modulation pedal will do flanging. However, it also covers chorus, phase, vibrato, tremolo, and more.
If you like to tweak and tinker, then this affordable clone of the Lovetone circuit could be for you.
LFO and beyond
Having a built-in LFO (low frequency oscillator) allows for all manner of interesting analogue modulation options. Then factor in the CV, and there are many ways to integrate this effect and its control into a more complex setup.
The dual-path design consists of a Dry Path (mono output of the signal) and a Wet Path, which carries the modulated ‘wet’ signal. With controls that consist of knobs for Manual, Depth, Rate, I/P Gain, Reaction, and Action, it has a lot going on. Plus, the LFO rotary switch and Loopage, Time, and Space footswitches.
Complex?
Yes, this is a complex design and not your average modulation pedal. I’m guessing it will appeal to a range of musicians. It should also appeal to anyone with synths, as it has a high input impedance and will handle them easily, plus it offers all the CV points for experimentation.
The design is true-bypass and will work with a standard 9 V DC centre-negative power supply. Like the Meatball and the Ring Stinger, it also comes in the same format and with a solid metal enclosure.
Having a built-in FX loop really opens up how it will integrate with a setup and makes it even more flexible for guitarists.
